yeah se will kill their cash cow mmo which is probably partially funding xvi just to get xvi out the door. that makes sense.

Actually makes sense. This checks out.
ff16 has been in development for years, since heavensward and it didn't seem to have any noticeable effect back then so I see no reason why it should be an issue now and in any event it's only going to be a year or so before it's out now and once that happens it will no longer be an issue.
I'm not sure how it would be wise to let the actual, somewhat constant source of income lose quality for the sake of a more temporary source of income in the future, particularly after XV was kinda meh
Dont really think they're over neglecting their cash cow for XVI to be fair. But I do want to point out that the trailer for the game, minus the cuts of the gameplay, could totally just be a teaser for the next expansion, where we travel to yet another new shard(they arent going to do this btw)
Even though they are not polished, the coloring, style, and graphics all look like they came right out of XIV. And then theres the Heavemsward like music in the background. All the primal models, everything just feels like its more like curscenes from the next expansion, rather than an entirely new game.
It might just be the particular teams involved with all of that, but compare the graphics to the 7 Remake, and stylized from XV the last official numbered installment, which had much similar dark coloration and textures, to this trailer it leaves some questions for sure. Granted, I am not shocked by the theme and timeperiod of the game under Yoshi's directing, he has said he wanted to do a main title and bring it back to the mideival setting like older FF had, but still you would think that the very recognizable colorings, and models, and other things would be a quite a bit different from XIV. Guess they really want to use the same engine as XIV, even though it seems like its always to blame for things that cant be added or fixed or worked on by the Dev team themselves....SE really confusing me, did the heads of the company get Nomura'd as well?

I'm getting flashbacks to 2007 era FFXI when people swore all the funds from XI were going to making that rumored "Rapture" game.
Yoshi P being involved in both at high levels does not mean that funding or individual developers are being shuffled between the projects. You could just as easily say that Bravley Default 2 or the FF VII remake were eating away at FF XIV's resources and have just as much 'proof' as there is here.
