Last major XI expansion was in... 2007, so totally correct.
And every expansion since Heavensward contained less dungeons and jobs.ff16 has been in development for years, since heavensward and it didn't seem to have any noticeable effect back then so I see no reason why it should be an issue now and in any event it's only going to be a year or so before it's out now and once that happens it will no longer be an issue.
Nope we got the Abyssea add-ons in 2010 which were an expansion basically broken up into 3 parts and Seekers of Adoulin in 2012 and that was followed by Rhapsodies of Vana'diel which was also an expansion's worth of storyline though the amount of battle content is debatable. We're also starting another storyline but it seems to more of a placeholder until the 20th anniversary which they supposedly have big plans for. Were some of the funds from XI's profits used for other projects? Of course they were but it's hard to argue it had a real impact on development unless you had some seriously sour grapes which to be fair a lot of the XI playerbase did then and does to this day.
The simplification and streamlining of XIV since SB seems to be the direction the devs want for one reason or another and until it's proven that XVI's development has been negatively impacting (as opposed to a purposeful plan) XIV all this is speculation and trying to cause some manner of strife.
I doubt that FFXIV is going to be abandoned altogether, though it's worth noting that Square Enix did scrap future development plans for Dissidia NT altogether simply because it was no longer profitable.
I’ve been thinking this too. We get less and less content per patch than we used to. In ARR we’d get 3 dungeons a patch, the latest 8 or 24 man raid, 2 beast tribes, Hildebrand quests, other side quests like post moogles, a new trial (or multiple if extremes) and even got a new job thrown in with it once. As well as the updates to the story.
Then it went down to 2 dungeons but still a decent amount of other stuff. Now since they’ve been sidetracked we get 1 dungeon, 1 trial and some story, with a gimmicked piece of content thrown in that usually gets blown through in a week.
Have you noticed the cut down on music alone in 5.x
Dungeons:
Pretty good for most of them, all dungeon bosses have same music ... thats ok i guess.
Trials:
Titania: Awesome, new music
Innocense: Remix of dungeon boss music
Hades: Title music
Ruby: Remix of Ultima
Memoria: dungeon boss music
WoL: Remix of title music
Raids:
E1: FF8 soundtrack
E2: same FF8 soundtrack
E3: remix of Leviathan
E4: remix of titan
E5: Remix of Ramuh
E6: Remix of Garuda/Ifrit
E7: same ff8 music as 1 and 2
E8: Remix but almost as good as a new one actually
Raids:
Songs taken from another game
Like, am i the only one seeing this.
Fights:
while we offer new things in dungeons, the entire raid is basically just remix ideas that "work" because its written to work, the idea of "fake versions of primal" or "alternate" ones could have been a one and done thing but nope we are riding that one all the way into the last tier i bet.
Weapons yea ... iconic but again nothing new, its gonna be 3 trials against sameish enemies. The 4 lords or the triads where vastly different.
We keep adding halfbaked ideas, High sea fishing? Cool, dead 3 weeks after arrival. Could we not have made the fish be used in a endgame potion? or give more yellow/white? Get the shark mount and get out ...
Ishgard restoration is sold as something new while its really just a "fancy" version of house of splendor which is like 5 years old?
You can grind 5 year old content to get your relic ... like why, again its hardly a grind and you can stamp out 1 a day with easy, so we struggle with content yet again are denied the grind of relics we had for sample in HW, the Umbra step took forever and you hand tons of way of tackling it ...
And before you give me the "boohoo cry about everything if you don't like it just quit" mate i want this game to be good, but the amount of remix and recycled stuff we get is getting out of hand while also cutting down on dungeons and the deep dungeon.
We have 5 Shiva fights now.

you are funny but not really
I cant hear you guys over the sound of my enjoyment doing fates since 2.0, I really cant wait for the new fate content.
[I've posted this before but I guess I'll post it again since this topic has come back.]
After Heavensward, Creative Business Unit III pulled away some of the key developers of Final Fantasy XIV and gave some of them lesser roles coming into the Stormblood expansion. Some of the names I recall were Hiroshi Takai (Assistant Director), Mitsutoshi Gondai (Assistant Director), Kazutoyo Maehiro (Lead Scenario Writer), and Kazuya Takahashi (Concept Artist). The first three became 'Development Supervisors' for Final Fantasy XIV while Kazuya Takahashi is given the 'Special Thanks' treatment in credits. One of these guys, Hiroshi Takai, is confirmed to be the Director of Final Fantasy XVI so it does look like they pulled some of the top developers away from Final Fantasy XIV to work on Final Fantasy XVI.
On the bright side, this allowed some members of the Final Fantasy XIV dev team to step up and take on a leading role. If it wasn't for Final Fantasy XVI, chances are that Natsuko Ishikawa wouldn't be the lead Main Scenario Writer for Shadowbringers and its story would have turned out differently. Personally, I think Shadowbringers had the best story out of all expansions so I'm glad she stepped up. Also, while there will be overlapping developers since both games are developed by Creative Business Unit III, they are still separate teams within the same studio and Yoshi-P hired new guys like Ryota Suzuki to help with development of the new game.
My main gripe about FF16 though is that many of us FF14 fans play exclusively on the PC; so making FF16 a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5 is a disservice to the PC players who have supported CBU3. Nonetheless, I'm still excited for the game. I just hope they don't keep us PC players waiting for too long because I'm already losing interest in FF7R (developed by CBU1 which is a separate studio from CBU3) which is still a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Well, FFXIV 1.0 "Rapture" was in development during that time. Maybe FFXVI isn't stealing the developers time but FFXIV is 7 years old now and it sense for SE is developing it's successor.
What is wrong with FATE exactly. Ten times better than FFXI's NM camping only to have it stolen. Hell, it's better than FFXIV Hunts that either die before you get there or last for maybe 30 seconds before it's dead. It's simple solution for complex problems.
