I would say leaving the FATE boundary gives you a warning and a 30s countdown.I somewhat like this idea but it's really easy to accidentally step outside a FATE's boundary and unsync without noticing until you realize your attacks aren't landing. You'd need to have some sort of secondary boundary before credit for contribution is removed so the player can re-enter and sync again without penalty, and that would probably be a pain to program.
I would say remove credit if the player engages another FATE before the first one is finished. Sure, they can still leave early but they can't get a jump start on the next FATE until the prior one is finished and the FATE train might decide to go to a different FATE. They might as well stay to help the first one finish faster.
If you don't re-enter the boundary within that time your progress is wiped. if you do re-enter, you get automatically re-synced.
The simpler solution would be to just have everything spawn inside the fate. Then you have no reason to accidently leave the fate area
Problem is in some fates the mobs will move around, and if you're a ranged dps or healer and trying to avoid AoE's... it can be easy to leave the FATE's circle accidently.
Classic example is the Cyclops Boss fate in Central Hinterlands near Isgard entrance - that boss has AoE's that really, really hurt... and depending on who's got aggro on them, it might be near the fate border... so easy to be forced outside of the fate circle to avoid the AoE. I've done this fate a number of times, and if there's no decent tank around... it will bounce around as ppl top it's aggro table, at which point that person runs (as they are dps/healers and will die in like 1 or 2 hits)... which means the boss is roaming all over, and doing it's aoe's all over, thus easy to be forced out of fate area to dodge aoe's.
I doubt SE will change anything on this, but if they do then they should IMO consider either/both of the following:
- start a new fate? Nothing from the previous fate
- Leave a fate? Give a 10-20 second countdown warning to get back in or lose contribution.
In the end, people will do what they want. We can't 'tell' them to do otherwise, though we can ask *shrugs*. The other thing I'd like to say to those who leave fates:
- Take note of ppl still doing the fates. Will the fate complete with just them? If not, then please stay... esle you & they get nothing. I know it's easy to just mount up and fly off to next fate... but if too many leave and the fate fail's? You get drastically reduced rewards. Would it be better to stay that little bit longer and get full, or just constantly get lowered rewards?
Definitely a better solution since just removing your FATE credit if you move too far away invites all of kinds of trolling potential. Some of it is entirely accidental too. If you've done any HW farming, you'll find BLU spamming Ram's Voice right where enemies spawn. If you move a hair too far, you'd lose all your credit despite being right on top of the FATE. Some type of 30 second warning at least allows you to correct for it.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
And there are tons of FATES where the mobs literally spawn OUTSIDE of the fate area.Definitely a better solution since just removing your FATE credit if you move too far away invites all of kinds of trolling potential. Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
When I first mentioned it was just a wild idea. With what has been said the idea of remove contribution if unsynced is bad and adds unnecessary stress to anyone with how easy is to leave the boundaries. I rather not inconvenience everyone for what a few do. A more elegant solution is what Jojoya mentioned about only tracking one fate at a time. Still, I don't see SE doing anything about this.Definitely a better solution since just removing your FATE credit if you move too far away invites all of kinds of trolling potential.
