I somewhat like this idea but it's really easy to accidentally step outside a FATE's boundary and unsync without noticing until you realize your attacks aren't landing. You'd need to have some sort of secondary boundary before credit for contribution is removed so the player can re-enter and sync again without penalty, and that would probably be a pain to program.

I would say remove credit if the player engages another FATE before the first one is finished. Sure, they can still leave early but they can't get a jump start on the next FATE until the prior one is finished and the FATE train might decide to go to a different FATE. They might as well stay to help the first one finish faster.
