    They definitely don't use XIV engine. It was a failure used for FFXIII, and now it slows down XIV.
    I'm sure they are using modified XV engine, because it looks almost identical.

    Only 1.0 ran on crystal tools. 2.x runs on a modified luminous engine.

    This. FFXIV is the Luminous engine, but not as powerful as FFXV version. Looks more like FFXVI is running the XV Luminous.
