There are 2 free phantas in the game. You can look up how to obtain them so technically you didn't have to spend $10 yet. It's a shame but it's a user error issue. I'm sure people make up a lot of stories after they decide they don't want to play a certain race or w/e and petition to get refunded so you were probably lumped in that group of people. Personally I think that if you buy a phanta, you should be allowed to change between the races you've "unlocked' but of course my idea must be too radical for SE to endorse. I think they'd sell a lot more phantas if they would permit race changing at a whim after using it once per race.

Unless you are an older player that got the Fantasia from Veteran Rewards, there is just one 1 Free Fantasia.

Don't you get one for defeating Ultima and then another from a quest somewhere in Coerthas or something? I remember there was a quest to obtain another fantasia outside of Ultima. Then there's the collector's edition upgrade. After looking it up, it seems there isn't a second one. What the heck? I swear there was one from this chain of quests from a guy near a chocobo keep. I must have slipped into an alternate dimension or my mind is getting old. Sorry, I swear I remember it differently. Weeeeeird.

I believe SE gave everyone at the time a free fantasia for the new race of Au Ra. That was the only time I seen a fantasia that was free asides from the CE and the completing the ARR MSQ.

There's been 3 "free" Fantasia's:

1) From the 2.0 MSQ (previously veteran reward)
2) From the Heavensward collectors edition
3) From having a character from 1.0.

Originally all 1.0 characters got a free appearance change (option was automatically there on character select), but many people didn't realise/messed up so they just sent a Fantasia to literally everyone with a 1.0 character, whether they used the free change or not. I used my free change when I logged into 2.0 for the first time, but I still have all 3 of the above Fantasia's as I've never wanted to change since.

I'm afraid there was never a free Fantasia for Au Ra, I think you're mixing that up with the HW collectors edition which was also when the Au Ra were released (launch of Heavensward).

Now I'm curious, was there a hidden fourth Fantasia if you managed to tick the right boxes at just the right time?
My now main character was sitting at ~35 for a very long time, because that's where I got off the FATE train and kind of burned out on the game, only logging them in for event items.
(Then I rolled another character on another server who is now abandoned, but let's get back to my point.)
I know I have/had the Veteran Reward Fantasia, that's what I used to change from Miqo to Highlander.
I also have another Fantasia collecting dust on a retainer. I don't have a 1.0 character and don't have any of the CEs. I also never bought Fantasia from the cash shop.
Was it possible to get both the Veteran Reward and the Fantasia from the 2.0 MSQ if you qualified for the Vet reward and then took long enough to go and finish the MSQ for ARR?

Yeah. I have the Veteran Fantasia and still get another Fantasia each time an Alt finished The Ultimate Weapon.
