Why not both? Why not have wards (with a timer) for those that seemingly like the mostly empty things..and instanced housing for those of us that dont care about it?

Also an little apartment is not the solution if you want a house..and with the system working like its now snagging one is also not that easy. (And yes that comes from someone that owns an apartment, and two big ones..)

In the end if SE continues to gives us housing items as rewards for so many things they should make sure that everyone got a house..

it's naive if yoy think people gonna stop complaining after that, most will just ignore the instance housing like they did with apartment and complaining the again limited ward. as long as it's limited and feel premium people who don't have them will complain.

How many people do you honestly think allow their houses to go into the demolition phase? All they'll do is stay subbed and step inside if they care enough to keep it. I recently took a break during 5.2; logging in only to cap for the week and playing other games. I probably missed the 45 day limit once. If I knew my house was in danger, I'd walk in, reset the timer and go back to my break. Most people are going to do that.

Now this is something that would actually open up houses. It's frankly absurd we have such a shortage yet they grandfathered in people with 40+ houses.

Maybe if Apartments weren't just glorified FC rooms this would actually be a viable option. As it stands, there is really no denying the current system is extremely flawed.

You would be surprised how many houses get demoed. I saw regular rotation of empty lots pop up on gilgamesh, siren, and faerie from november to february. Its how I got my houses between 3 servers in a span of a month. The demo timer does works if it left on. You remember last year when they turned it on and how many plots opened? It was total chaos for almost a week. THen they added the new wards last June. People get a plot, play with housing gardening for a few months and just leave them to rot.

Uh, those weren't from demolition. Those were from wards 19-21 being added with the release of patch 5.1 at the end of October. That added 720 new houses to each world.

Those who already owned a house were able to relocate to the new wards. FCs were able to purchase in the new wards. Individual players were able to purchase plots in the old wards that became available when the previous owner relocated.

The personal purchase moratorium in the new wards was removed when 5.2 was released mid February. What few houses were still available in the new wards were quickly purchased by those who hadn't been lucky enough to find a vacated plot in the old wards.

Demolition opens up maybe a few hundred houses per world each year, that's it. Technically it works but it's not nearly as effective in making houses available as you and others have assumed.

Also, it's not when the demo timer is reactivated that huge numbers of houses become available. That happens 45 days after the demo timer resumes. What happened in May of last year was the demo timer resumed around the same time we had the free transfers for the data center. Most of what ended up available last May/June was due to players transferring to other worlds, not the demo timer being resumed. When we hit the 45 days after demoltion resumed, far fewer houses appeared than players had hoped. The expansion hype plus free transfers had drawn a lot of inactive players to the game who managed to reset their demo timers before they lost their houses.

If they do this, it should be on a sunday. Everyone should literally be off on a sunday. This gives everyone a chance to get something.

Oh here is the Announcement. Demo timers came back on last april https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...115901bfe97a59

It may have not happened on Coeurl, but it did happen on Gilgamesh. It opened up a lot of plots immediately for us. I imagine the same thing will happen with this one. Point is the timers do more than you realize especially when they have been left of for long periods of time. You can look back in the housing thread for people looking for plots, complaining how unfair it is back from the end of april last year. People threatening to quit and such yet they are still here. So yea it did open up quite a bit and it took a couple of weeks. It was pretty chaotic.

Because people are going to people. There was a huge issue with people buying plots then reselling at a huge inflation rate to relinquish the land.

I have suggested indoor gardening myself, but it's not enough for some people. They would not accept tiny instanced houses just like they don't accept apartments as a viable option. See?

You're overestimating the number of plots that come up for auto-demolition. Complaints about housing availability occur just as much when demolition is enabled.
