There's no real good solutions. You might find some houses on a dead server though but come on you're on Balmung, one of the ERP capitals of FFXIV what do you expect?

I mean a different housing system* would be nice. . . /shrug. I'd give Raubahn's right arm for a better one.
Waaay easier said than done of course, cost of this system I'm sure is substantial and changing all the core code to fit a new system more so (which adds logic to way we've been stuck like this, but I'm not going to be happy about that lol). I've some finely aged amaurot oak cast salt for this system and hope to never see this exact system again in any mmo I play-- "but my neighborhood's" one might say but even instanced systems are capable of that. The only thing, in my eyes, this system achieves is locking down player and developer creativity while also being a logistical nightmare (even if they add more lots getting the lot of the size of the location theme you want is additional issue, and as they add more lots for players instead of FC guess what vibe gets worse and worse... The system actively shoots itself in the foot for a feature that isn't even unique to the system)/saltbae.
*Improving systems can appear to the point of 'different'. Just to be clear, say for example they removed the weird limits on apartments in each ward, such that if you went to the building they were there and search able (no 500 in this ward and 500 in that, they are there and available, and 'it just works' lol). Then they made them upgrade-able to the point you could get large size house with a yard, like renting a cottage or something (outdoor space included). This would be 'like' a new system in my mind, but some might argue that's still apartments. Whatever floats the peoples boat but still turns into a solution.
Of course ultimately I still think SE should be dreaming much bigger than apartment upgrades- why be so hand tied (like having to use glitches when they could give players scale and position like Rift, Wildstar, or whatever else have you system), like creation magic madness (ala wildstar tier quality systems, which at a certain point this game's lore is actively swooning for). Power and creativity for everyone.

I will say it as a person designing a guild. I am terrified of their work, all regions have unique walls and columns. And when they added a dividing wall (on which wallpaper can be glued) as accessories, I was finally delighted! But .. I was shocked .. The tones of the wood were brighter than those of the house itself, which hurts the eyes. And in 5.3 they added a bed with the same problem, it has a different surface grain and a different tone, although the model is from the same set. Either there people design it on different equipment with different graphics settings (I know it's funny) or they are not really interested in it at all with such negligenceI mean a different housing system* would be nice. . . /shrug. I'd give Rahbuan's right arm for a better one.

I'm okay with that. If housing was the only thing keeping you around, you clearly weren't very invested in the game anyhow.
Dead Server? is there any really? There are only 5040 housing plots per server or 40,320 plots per NA Data Center. The need will always outweigh the supply, as long as they keep to the current design plan, say there are 100k players in NA, which means they need to more than double the available housing.
