I think excluding people with no houses from purchasing at the beginning is really unfair. Way back when, I never would've thought that the small house I got (not bought) from a friend who was upgrading his house would be the crucial factor in the equation of me later on being able to get the house I really wanted. So I can only imagine the frustration of people who didn't have this chance. Like, these are the people who don't have a house. Shouldn't they be a priority every now and then? So in one release of new wards we exclude the people with no houses to allow for relocation, and in the next one we exclude people with houses to allow for purchasing. I'd like to say we should sometimes exclude FCs as well (due to system abuse), but since I'm not invested in FCs at all, I dunno how big or small the impact of this will be.

The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D

OP, you might still have a chance when the new wards arrive. But you need to log in ultra fast and grab your house at light speed, for you happen to be in the most populated server that ever existed, and getting a house here has always been a huge challenge for everyone.
I could swear that Yoshida mentioned bringing new servers in the future too, so stay tunned! Sooner or later, one way or another, you'll be able to get a house. You just need to be patient.

They just posted about this:

Looks like FC's aren't getting priority on the new wards and it'll be a free for all, physical expansions to servers are in the freezer due to COVID.

I find it hard to believe anyone is leaving the game based solely on not being able to get a house. The game is so much more than its housing system. If someone is leaving the game, housing could be one reason, but I do not believe for a second that it's the only reason.
If someone wants a home they can always get an apartment. Yes, apartments are more limited in scope and don't have a yard, but it's a way to play with the housing system. Could apartments stand to be improved? Of course they could. Simply adding an indoor garden plot item and increasing the limit on placeable items in apartments from 100 to 200 (equivalent to a small house) would dramatically increase how one can detail an apartment and basically give apartments the same amenities of a personal house sans the yard. If the item limit were 200 I could make an apartment look exactly like the interior of my house in Mist and with an indoor garden plot object anyone could crossbreed.
Hyperbolic statements like "the housing system is making people leave" do nothing to improve the situation. Making concerted efforts to push for improvement in specific ways for the existing system is the main way to make change happen. Trying to scare the devs with ridiculous statements like the above isn't going to motivate them to do squat, but if enough people start suggesting realistic ways to make what we have address the bulk of the issues, then the devs might say "hey this suggestion is actually something we can do and could be the answer we're looking for".
For now, make the most of an apartment. I did:

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

While I can understand the frustration of not being able to get a house if you want one, this situation was just as bad on high pop worlds before COVID as it is now. It's quite a stretch to imply that the COVID changes have really been the cause of the issue, and it's also a pretty major exaggeration to imply that you considering leaving because of the inability to find a house is tantamount to there being some sort of large exodus of players.
New housing wards doesn't solve anything. It's only a short term solution that doesn't address the real problem. They need to re-enable housing demolition and end the practice of disabling it.

Consider waiting until the new houses appear before quitting the game.
If housing REALLY mean that much to you, consider moving off of Balmung. It's only going to be worse for you there trying to get one.

No, they don't need to stop the entire practice. There's instances in life where a crisis happens and people of that area need that bit of assurance that their stuff if safe while they deal with it. I do, however, think this one for Covid has gone on long enough...

Man, you can't say anything online without people attempting to take it in the most extreme way possible.
