How can PvP not be a competition? It's us standing there, trying to beat each other, literally. That's competition, and what really measures one's skill against the other. Many MMO's uses this, and more than often creates a certain guild-pride, forcing you to want to become better at what you do, or go sulk, chopping some wood, or kill a mob 30 levels below you.

Sitting around still bc someone stole your tag or dungeon run is, however, not competition. It's a waste of gametime. Ofc, one could always work on their syncronized LS emotes, or make ritual strip-tease while waiting for the next spawn.
While mobs spawn too quickly in dungeons atm, let's not go overboard and let the poor guys that arrived just a tad too late have to wait for an hour or more before stuff spawns again.

Rare spawns and rare mobs and even rarer loot is content. But in no way is it competitive. It's simply just grind. Fun grind, maybe, but not competitive.

Sand Box PvP is nothing but a giant Jerk Fest. LS/Team/Solo styled instanced PvP is the only way to go, i also wouldn't mind seeing some Non player Bashing PvP like blitzball Or something.

Your personal opinion of Gath isn't relevant to the topic under discussion. I see a lot of people coming out against the kind of content Gath is suggesting and I am unsure of why. It is quite simple, let them add it. If you don't like this type of content you will not be forced to do it. Ok, you might be forced to do it, but the odds of the devs that make it sneaking into your house and holding a gun to your head, begging you to please please run their content before they are forced to do something drastic are slim. Possible, but slim.

Cthulhu wonders how Gath misses this morsel. Cthulhu thinks Gath should get personal linkshell number of Miqo'te, maybe do ritual striptease she talks about in previous post. Cthulhu also thinks you should get an aldgoat and offer up it's blood to the old ones when done with striptease. After all it is a ritual.

I hear claim botting is hard, and/or I hear calling your LS mates at 3:16 in the morning because HNM has popped is a healthy and normal activity. It's a wonder why my job (3-11 AM shift) has so much trouble finding people -- everyone loves that shift.

Having said that, Gath's entire theory is based on the false assumption that people don't suck. A little competition is a good thing, but make that competition too rigid and demanding, and you'll see backstabbing, player poaching, and all sorts of elite drama. Maybe Gath's FFXI server was filled with sunshine and rainbows, but back in the day on Remora, there was a near constant stream of tears from the creme de le creme having shitfits over this reason or that.

Oh, and Gath -- for Christ's fucking sake, if you're going to write in the third person, be consistent. If you passed the second grade, you'd have learned that switches tenses and 'persons' in a single piece of writing is an amateur mistake. But maybe you purposely do it to troll, so if that's the case, kudos to you.

I've been avoiding this thread... it's become quite the joke. People seem to be more obsessed with how Gath types than what he actually said. He made some accurate points.

Don't think I mentioned any sandbox PvP. Tournaments and/or some RvR-related PvP is the way to go. PvP should be a measure of skill, not who can zerg and ping-kite the most.

Well, Even if they do put HNMs in it will not be the only thing they do. They could set up a system like in sky. Plenty of trigger NMs that you can spawn with certain items and plenty of NMs that pawn on their own via regular lottery spawn or placeholder spawn. With a bountiful amount of NMs that drop triggers if one LS is at it then you can move to another or farm the items for the force pop ones. When you get a certain set of triggers you can go off and pop the big NMs that drop good gear. This is just a good mechanic that worked awesome for Sea/Sky. If that's too much work Gath hears that WoW made things easy.
