How can PvP not be a competition? It's us standing there, trying to beat each other, literally. That's competition, and what really measures one's skill against the other. Many MMO's uses this, and more than often creates a certain guild-pride, forcing you to want to become better at what you do, or go sulk, chopping some wood, or kill a mob 30 levels below you.

    Agreed so far.

I have said it before and that is this game is way to casual friendly and that is part of the issue, but yet some players like it that way and than in the end bitch about it.
Sitting around still bc someone stole your tag or dungeon run is, however, not competition. It's a waste of gametime. Ofc, one could always work on their syncronized LS emotes, or make ritual strip-tease while waiting for the next spawn.
While mobs spawn too quickly in dungeons atm, let's not go overboard and let the poor guys that arrived just a tad too late have to wait for an hour or more before stuff spawns again.

Rare spawns and rare mobs and even rarer loot is content. But in no way is it competitive. It's simply just grind. Fun grind, maybe, but not competitive.

Sand Box PvP is nothing but a giant Jerk Fest. LS/Team/Solo styled instanced PvP is the only way to go, i also wouldn't mind seeing some Non player Bashing PvP like blitzball Or something.

Don't think I mentioned any sandbox PvP. Tournaments and/or some RvR-related PvP is the way to go. PvP should be a measure of skill, not who can zerg and ping-kite the most.

This is a turn based game, meaning anyone can stand there or run away and just do combos or nuke and heal, I dont see this as a skill. You want competition based on skill than you need to go play games like street fighter or tekken etc. Unless SE comes up with a way to actually make PvP skilled it will end up like PvP in FFXI.

I am merely stating what is wrong with the current game as mobs repop too fast. As well as a few other areas that need improvement. Furthuremore there is no stategy in FFXIV other than the primal and or moogle fights its all zerg this or zerg that. The original dev team wanted to make this game solo/casual friendly and that is what they did. This right there needs to be fixed so that killing mobs isnt zerg this zerg that for everything in the game, other than a few pieces of content.

Not really. Plenty of "turn based" MMO-games have a successful PvP scene. All what you describe seems to be tactics used aplenty for pvp with great excitement. Street-fighter and Tekken is not MMO's, and the "PvP" has no group based tactics in it. It's only mashing buttons, and these games have super-combo spam more so than you'd ever find in this game. That the mechanics of FFXIV needing some kind of work on is, ofc, right. There isn't a single MMO out there still in service that shouldn't be worked on, improved and rebalanced as it progresses. It's very plausible, the way you play this game today, will not be true once 2.0 hits live. And then, if implemented correctly, you'll see PvP will be the most defining factor for LS vs LS competition. PvE is not competition.
