I don't think I have ever felt like Warrior has ever felt quite right. 2.0 it was OK as a life steal tank, but I think SE may have missed the mark for what they wanted the tank to be ultimately. Warrior has always been a class trying to hang onto an idea of what it should have been.

I ultimately hung up my warrior and finished out 2.0 with PLD. Didn't touch warrior until near the end of 3.0 just to level it, and the same for 4.0. Others would argue warrior was "top dog" for tanking in 4.0, but I didn't see it when I played. Like it was trying to accomplish to much, and everyone was And each subsequent patch update I noticed warrior was no longer ANYTHING like it was prior slipping further and further from it's basic core fundamentals.

Focus become more and more on DPS, and less on a coherent rotation for tanking that you can get behind. It felt like warrior to me had to do some REALLY fancy things to pull incredible DPS, don't get me wrong amazing DPS! I felt that I would do that better playing a DPS rather then being a tank trying to be a DPS. Again...I would hang it up after every expansion released...

5.0 Warrior is striped down to literally the basics it almost started with, and I started to enjoy the class more. Became my 3rd 80 after PLD and ASTRO. But Nascent bugged me so I didn't continue playing it due to the gimmicky nature of Nascent. The rotation was much more coherent and simple, but warrior felt caged though, and the potential was nearly there.

5.3 The cage was opened and now Warrior feels so damn...perfect! THIS is what was missing in 2.0...this kit! There are those that feel warrior is basic and simple, but I say so what. When I'm tired of a breakneck rotation on PLD, and switch to warrior it's like a stroll in the park, relaxing. I have never had more fun with warrior then I have now. Nascent perfect, Storms Eye perfect, DPS is strong, sustainability on point. I have not been on my PLD at all since 5.3 released.

Warrior may be my new main tank and I have waited for 6 years. Incredible feeling. Paladin's felt this 5.0 launch because SE knocked paladin out of the park. Least changed job this expansion. Now Dark Knights need there time in the spot light.
    :/
I guess some people like stripped down barebones jobs that are basically just copy and paste now.

The changes are nice, but... BBBB! Bring Back Butcher's Block! Make it a mid potency oGCD 20-30 sec cooldown finisher only usable when the target's hp is below 10-20%. Can't let this beautiful animation go to waste.

So the OP skipped WAR when it was in the apex of its life cycle from 2.1 until 4.0... smh.

You're really exaggerating how big these changes were. Nascent Flash feels a bit smoother when you just want to use it on yourself, but it's not like you couldn't already do that in group content (I'd hope your groups aren't dying often enough to leave no one alive to use it on). The extra Eye duration from Inner Release is just worth one extra Path every 3 minutes. You're not fitting a lot more Paths in and you're not getting a lot more gauge for Fell Cleave, you're just rearranging Path/Eye because it can stack up to 60s.

The changes are nice indeed buts it's not incredible. Warrior from 5.2 war almost the same as now and i'm still wondering why war is still the only tank without a "normal" gapcloser (it's like pld in stormblood lmao, war doesnt NEED a gapcloser but it's frustrating to not have one).

Why can't people be hyped that their class plays smoother even if it didnt really affect the classes damage output? People are allowed to enjoy the gameplay flow more then the numbers a class puts out?

Technically at the end of the fight, remaining gauge can be spent into the gap closer for more DPS. So any more beast gauge is a DPS increase, its just that the DPS increase is mostly tiny by the end of a long fight.

so? I personally didnt like warrior when the optimal gameplay behind it didnt include taking advantage of all the cool mechanics warrior had for tanking, like how inner beast would basically be a nigh-on-demand heal and damage mitigation cooldown.

Yeah it's much better now that nascent flash party restriction is gone. Still gonna use a macro for it to target party members or npcs or whatever. But it feels good. Here's hoping they do the same for pvp.

I also wish they would stop adding new actions tbh. Because at this point, they don't really add anything. They just take away old actions and give them back. I would be happy if they kept wars like this for pve. For pvp, just change nascent flash it would be near perfect.

But in any situation that would force the tank away from the group and them eating a tank buster they just gained another CD that gives them self recovery.
In the new 5.3 EX trial I usually tell healers not to bother healing me after the tank buster since I always have NF ready for that with an infuriate ready to go if needed. I can get back to 50% or even full if i crit Equilibrium, which can proc for over 60k, very easily. This "buff" was needed and I put buff in quotations because it used to be tied to IB in Defiance while also giving you a rampart for 6 secs back in SB. The heals are nice but ultimately still a former shadow of what it once was. However WAR is now fluid to play and as someone who values the feel of a job I can say that WAR feels good. SE now being applied at the start of the animation is good too and the bump to max 1 min makes it less stressful to maintain, for a 10% dmg buff that used to be 20% in SB.
