They are 'original' characters. The rest of the ARR Scion cast existed before ARR was released.
I can understand the thing with the main protagonist but why them?
They are so many others much more interesting characters (at least for me) in the game, not just the one from scions but from the expansion as well, which would be much more fun to follow than these two. All it would take is just adjust the writing of the story a bit.
Like for example instead focusing on Alphinaud, they could chose someone else (if it has to be a scion for example Yshtola, Uriganerm, Thranced or someone complete new). I think they already had more enough time since 1.0, if i could chose i would like to see some npcs from the last expansion again
I see a thread like this for every time someone has a personal bias against a character. Because when they aren't your favorite, people tend to complain about them being on screen too much. But when you look at all the content, they're on near equal footing. Thancred and Urianger are just chilling with primal threats like how much you pray return to the waking sands when dealing with ARR and now Eden.
Well, they are the first 2 characters you meet at the start of the game.

More players will likely have more of a connection with those two over the other scions (you might not feel as much of an affinity for Thancred if you didn't start ARR in Ul'Dah or Y'shtola if you didn't start in Limsa)
We spent all of Heavensward traveling with Alphinaud, and then all of Stormblood with Alisae whereas think about Y'Shtola and we saw her for non Limsa starts when we were fighting Titan (where she came across as pretty haughty toward Merlwyb) and after that... we don't interact much with her from what I can recall on the adventure until post-Heavensward. Thancred similarly you don't really interact much at all with in ARR if you didn't start in Ul'Dah until post-Heavensward and even then he tends to go in the method of "I'm gonna go sneak around over here for a bit. See ya"
But beyond trying to create using the characters more players will have had the most time in-game with, the twins have a fun dynamic when they have them in scenes together that was absent now that Lyse and Papalymo aren't traveling around together.
Practical parts aside, I'm guilty of really enjoying watching the two of them together above watching any of the other scions, and at this point Alisae is probably my favorite NPC in the game. So I'm always all for more of her in the scenes. And it's not just because of her strong independent nature. She's also very caring, like with Ga Bu or Halric. She's probably a more well-rounded character than the others.

Alphinaud is reserved because he got an Ego Check due to the Crystal Braves. Something Alisaie is SORELY lacking.Idk, I just wish Alisaie was less obnoxious. I don't need to see how totally awesome she is every 5 minutes. I get it, Alisaie. You're a strong, independent person who doesn't need protecting. Stop shoving it down my throat, please. Alphinaud, on the other hand, is the more reserved one and I thank him for it.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
Yeah, I found him about as obnoxious then as I find his sister currently. After he got his reality check I actually didn't mind him, and he had some pretty decent character development that followed which extended all the way through Shadowbringers.
Alisaie was basically full on depression during ARR. She didn't understood Eorzea and all that she cared about was her grandpa. If you went through Coil then you saw her grow up to become her own person with her own motivations.
She was always a sensitive girl who suffered the most when people died on her during the MSQ so seeing her happy is supposed to make you feel happy too. And being happy for Alisaie means helping others in a more personal way, compared to Alphinaud's more political methods. That's her character growth...
Well, her character growth resulted in being obnoxious instead of likable, at least for me. The writers really want our characters to like her, but I'm just not feeling it. Some people enjoy her character and that's fine. I'm just not one of them. Not even close.Alisaie was basically full on depression during ARR.
