I usually give someone a comm, and then leave.
Sometimes rumors are just... rumors.

For a while, after I earned my Parade Chocobo (still the highest com reward, I think?), I used to book it out of instances specifically so folks COULDN'T com me, and they'd be encouraged to give the com to others that might need it more.
Nowadays, I don't bother. Let the coms fall where they may! (And as tank, they often fell on me.)
I've noticed when I stick around and wait for new players, players watching cutscenes, or etc, I get a lot more comms. In general, everyone's always in a rush these days.

FYI, there's a Challenge Log bonus for giving Comms.

Once you passed 3K and got your mount, you don't really extra comms, do you?

Maybe, I probably won't think about it much after that point. However, they may add a higher teir reward. If not, the required mentor amount will probably be raise beyond that at some point, so some people will want more.

Yeah, I was healing E6N the other day and everyone was determined to die, but I managed to pull it back from a wipe and even used healer LB3 twice in a single run. Can't really outheal falling off the edge I guess. At one point it was just me and the MT, but by the end we had everyone back. It took a long time and there were a lot of close calls. Got one commendation at the end. People were grateful in chat, but apparently not grateful enough. It's completely random, in my experience. The only place I really get commended consistently is like PoTD weirdly enough. I could solo heal and save a run and most of the time that happens I am lucky to get one, on a good day, two commendations. It makes me sad. People definitely do commend for random things, like people's glamour etc., or just not commend at all.
Usually as a duty goes on I try to make note of who I think deserves it the most, to encourage them to do well in the future too. So it's extra annoying when they leave too fast.
