Yeah he said that as soon as he saw the live comments in Japanese freaking out over their change of decision. It was a very on the spot remark to get people to settle down.
Sadly I don't believe he actually wants to change it since it's probably already in the pipeline for the change and changing that would be slightly unproductive of them.

I can only hope that he proves me wrong.

Also, changing the numerals in the titles are pretty much just as bad for any achievement hunter.
Because they will still need to grind that out.
