Y'shtola is more interesting then most of the other Scions. Killing her off would just make the Scions less interesting. Frankly I think Thancred should go since the writers never seem to know what to do with him. Each game/expansion and he has a new personality. So, a few times these past couple of weeks, forum posters and youtubers and other people on other socials have asked or put out polls and things wondering, "Who do you think will be the next scion to die?" or "Which Scions would you like to see killed?" and other such similar things.
It seems, almost every time I say Y'shtola, somebody jumps out of the woodwork saying, "She's the face of FFXIV! She's like Cloud for FF7. They can't kill her off, or they will lose money. She is invulnerable/untouchable/can't be messed with."
So, what do you think, reader?

Personally, I think they've been building up to killing her off as a very emotional moment for FFXIV people, and the build up has been taking so long that by the time we get to the moment in the story where they finally decide to stop writing her out of death we'll basically be like, "Get on with it!"
can I see the full picture of your sig with your character please? Also did you draw that? If so can I request you to color some lineart I'm going to do of my miqo sam? :O

I find Urianger and Thancred both to be far more interesting than Y'shtola. Whereas she remains static, snarky magical cat girl, they actually develop and reveal new thing after new thing about themselves. If anything, they don't know what to do with her, since we get the same song, second verse same as the first treatment with what she does each expansion( at the least the ones where she's a major participant HW and SHB). Views things on an aetheric level for foreshadowing --> Uses powerful forbidden lifestream learned magicks ---> Uses forbidden teleport spell, and gets brought back by a more learned magus. If they can't really freshen up her character at all, then she needs to go.
What you view as a new personality each expansion for Thancred is just character development, even if it's executed poorly. He goes from workaholic womanizer to workaholic slightly past his prime with aetheric sensitivtiy, to workaholic that wants to be alone to process losing his adopted daughter of sorts to reluctant father figure for a girl who looks like the daughter he lost. I really like all the change he's gone through. Would be sad if he dies, but also it would make sense for him to die, considering all of the strain he's put himself through.
Urianger obviously has the, "has met personally with the Ascians and not been body snatched," angle. Has been a double agent. Ties in with the twins. Has quirky, lovable speech, and even quirkier mannerisms/fears.
I don't think any story character is "safe" per se. So yes, of course Y'shtola could be killed off and with the right circumstances I'd be fine with that.

In the end they killed nobody

Yshtola has the most interesting personality, but overall as a character story I feel like shes kind of flat. Shes just the student who is becoming cynical like her mentor. The blindness issue doesnt seem to be getting addressed either, though perhaps that has more to do with the circumstances of the first.
