Where I come from "and" and "or" have different meanings. Basically, you don't have to [stop playing a stupid minigame and fight some monsters] to spiritbond or get gil (since gathering, too, is a stupid minigame that is entirely a solo endeavor).

Also holy fuck seriously getting caught up on this crap again. The point is you don't need a party to get any of this crap. You don't need to fight anything more difficult than a regular solo monster. You don't need to put forth any effort that a bot couldn't. This is a bad system.

Go back and read your bolded sentence again. Stare long enough and you should realize how it can easily be interpreted another way than what you were thinking. Also no, the milk analogy doesn't fit as you didn't even use the same sentence structure. Regardless, not gonna argue that any longer if it really isn't what you meant.

We come back to your opinion of obtaining highly effective gear through solo means via crafting and gathering efforts to be bad design. This very opinion you've been tying to push as fact since the beginning of this thread. You may find crafting and gathering to be repetivie, boring and not worthwhile, but a grind is a grind is a grind. Some people like solo content to go along with their party content. Some people even prefer it. Even for just that reason alone the materia system will never die out even if W gear were to be better in slot.

The point is there are options, and as long as the % chance in obtaining good gear is balanced with the effort it requires then all is fine.

A lot of these problems you're speaking of are nonexistent at this time and come across prophetic. They clearly stem from some deep-seeded hate for crafting and gathering, and a belief that they shouldn't amount to anything substantial on their own. Then you suggest welding of W gear as a solution to this problem that doesn't exist.

Again, being able to obtain solid gear through materia melding is not bad for the game. There just needs to be balance in the effort required to obtain something and the value of it. This makes it a concern of itemization.

There is a difference between hating crafting and hating what crafting needlessly forces upon the rest of the game.

The reason I (and I assume the reason others) dislike the materia system AS IT IS RIGHT NOW is because it has made a huge portion of the "endgame" useless and will continue to do so unless SE either makes the materia system more flexible or actually attempts some proper itemization.

Apparently the devs are never going to respond to this thread, so hopefully they release AF stats soon, rather than the end of February.

I agree. Most of the W gear one can get in the game right now other than the Ifrit and Mog stuff are basically obsolete. They have no worthwhile stats, and thus my saying SE needs to work on their itemization.

I'd say given the trend they're setting with the Ifrit and Mog loot that they're heading in a good direction, but the strongholds are also new content and their drops are for the most part just lolwot - which is what worries me.

I've got my fingers crossed for some creative itemization coming up with solid, balanced designs on various gear introduced to the game with some creative design.
