I doubt a sandbox mmo will ever be a mainstream success but still I wouñd not mind a sandbox MMO. From older gamers it seems a lot of their interesting tales happened within sandbox style mmos. Being able to try that at least once with a fresh propulsr IP even if it would be short lived would be interesting to me.

Granted, I enjoy mske your own fun type games.
"Make your own fun" is a great excuse companies like to use to release an unfinished product/empty game. Again, yes, in theory they sound great. In practice, not so much. A sandbox game can be popular, such as Rust, but there are many many issues therein. Players ruin the experience for others, time and time again. Personally, I cannot stand some of the idiotic creations that flood game worlds, still it isn't to say there is potential for awesome creativity - this creativity will just be subsequently destroyed by some random player while you are asleep. I don't even know what you are envisioning a "true" sandbox game other than like the examples given above Albion online - which apparently has some big issues I have read about. Star Wars Galaxies sure, but that game had some horrendous features as well, it would definitely be niche, and would only invite a hardcore audience - meaning your only hope for something of the like would be from an indie development studio. The problem with indies, is they just don't have the budget, or manpower, to become the best of what they could be. It is unfortunate, but it is how it is.

Yeah, I had fun with Rust, Ark, dayz and sure make your own fun is an excuse companies use. Though from what I csn tell from the stories from gamers that played ffxi or swg at the height there experience differed greatly from whst one would get from rust, ark, or dayz. Sure it is a lofty dream but that is joy of dreams at times. I know it will never be a thing, but still something that would be nice to experience.

Granted I propably am one of those players that as you said ruin yhe experience for others. Though talking to other people that played games like SWG what my view as a true sandbox is not the same as what a sandbox was back when swg was popular. Sure it may have problems, and far from perfect but I do hope more companies take a risk and tske elements from a sandbox.

Though in truth what I know as a sandbox differs greatly from what I can tell from those that played classic sandbox mmos in tje past. That is the experience I one day hope to experience.

In short do not get me wrong I know it will propably never happen, just a desire of mine that is all. Maybe I will give Albion a try, I have heard of it, but never been a fan of that top down style of gameplay.

I'm pretty sure you can still play those games of old, SWG has private servers or whatever. I suppose you want something up to date, which also means made by a developer with a large budget unfortunately. These games differ from Rust or Ark, I'd actually say Rust or Ark are closer to a true sandbox; a less structured experience where players just go wild. Yeah, if you like ganking players, and destroying something that took them hours upon hours to build, you might find it fun. The solo player is pretty much not a thing for these type of games - without instituting rules. Personally, I prefer that more structured experience. This requires actual effort by the devs though, and a steady release of content.

Yeah it is not for everyone. I enjoy many aspects of each of those games. Ark is funny me and my friends like to reverse gank at times we knock them out and give them full sets of loot abd supplies.

We have been playing SWG a lot as of late. It is weird since while playing you often hear people living in the past and talking about how it was to play at the height. It honestly sounds like it was a blast, also a pain especially the pvp aspects. SWG pvp is interesting to say the least.

My current hope is star citizen, the early access is a blast, and I do enjoy my time with it I cannot wait for it to be fully released. Though I properly have better luck playing all of FF7 remake before I am dead before thst happens.

Yeah that true, that is why I would love to try a proper sandbox mmo. Cause what I know as a sandbox differs greatly from what it was in the past. I can only experience the hallow shell of those games now. I would love to see what a proper sand box mmo experience is like since I know my experience of sandbox games is mostly an excuses by devs to do the bare min in terms of production of content.

Overall I doubt it will happen, just a silly dream.
