Well, thankfully Eorzea is simply a small piece of the Source itself. Just because a particular art is frowned upon and/or outlawed within Eorzea it doesn't rule out such arts being taught and embraced elsewhere. Since we've already explored pretty much every corner of Eorzea itself at this point it'd be pleasant if the story began to revolve around other parts of the Source from here on out. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Kugane in no small part because it wasn't strictly beholden to Eorzea's way of life. In some ways it was similar yet in many others it was distinct.

Necromancy could easily be written to be a key part of a foreign culture without the taboo it has within Eorzea. Or it could just be written to be a grim necessity as a means to fight fire with fire. Much like how other MMO's and many single player games handle such powers.

Yoshi P once mentioned he liked the idea of making an Eastern 'Onmyoji' status-related caster DPS job.
The in game lore of this is kinda along the lines of Geomancy/Onmyoji being similar to the Conjury/Thaumaturgy dichotomy.
It's a somewhat forbidden branch of blood magic involving sacrifices and whatnot.

While I doubt it could work as a status mage in XIV's current climate, I could see it working as a dark mage.
Although I'd personally prefer Geomancer to give us spells like Quake and Tornado.

Wasn't the interview a bit more cut and dry than that? He told an interviewer they had an Eastern Style Onmyoji caster they had worked on but couldn't perfect it, so they pushed it aside for red mage. Then the interviewer asked "Like Oracle?" and Yoshi said yes. I think that is where the community assumed status mage, but that would be a whole new role for the franchise.

Also Onmyoji isn't somewhat forbidden, it's is full on outlawed. That is why they cross the see to Othard in the one chain of FATES because they hope that with what just happened between Doma and the empire they can get away with their magic while people are otherwise occupied. But like I always say in Geomancer threads, they really are so all over the place in the story and lore for the two counterparts of the Geo/Ony thing that who even knows. Because the whole Geomancer story comes into Ony issues with the blood sacrifice needed for the barrier, and Kyokohu using water to heal while the translation in Swallows Compass talk about Earth being the healing element etc.

Also their balancing of darkness and light I think was further moved to the new (at the time) red mage (the balancing of black and white mana instead). I do really hope they just merge Ony and Geo to give us the Quake 'Nado combo though.

    In regards to everyone else,
To get a true "edgy" darkness type class I think the lore and story team would really have to jump through some hoops to implement anything

Whether it's somewhat or fully outlawed, or it's just a case of being outlawed in some areas but not others (not that any of this matters too much for adding a job), the entry on it in EE2 does point to it being close to thaumaturgy, much as geomancy is with conjury and, in its focus, astromancy. Nonetheless, I don't think that really poses much of a hindrance, since it's always open to them to simply present the practitioners we've seen thus far as less experienced in the arts than the hypothetical trainer.

Here's the interview, anyhow, and yes, it is rather cut and dry. Still, I'd hope they put aside and preserved concepts from it for future use, if they were good.

I have read all of that, yes. It’s still all over the place. The book says nothing about blood sacrifice having to do anything with Geomancer, but with Onmyuji yet the whole 60-70 job quest for Astro revolves around blood sacrifice. The book also states it’s the Onmyuji that deals with “divining” yet all the the fake Geomancer in Kugane are diviners akin to Astrologian. The book also says it’s the Ony that deal with putting spirits into objects, yet Geomancer are known in game for shikigami as well, along with their deity’s trial having you fight waves of them.

I hope they just combine Ony and Geomancer for an overall eastern caster.

In addition almost every level 70 weapon on the DoM side is used in Geomancy in some form, so they really just said “Eastern themed? Geomancy”
