Honestly given the push towards ARPG if we get a new MMO I wouldn't be surprised if it more resembles a Korean MMO or the like and is more comboey and such. Not really wanting that but knowing SE wouldn't surprise me.

There won't be a sequel. Technically each expansion is a sequel. We're at four games in the FFXIV series and counting.
I doubt there will even be another MMO Final Fantasy like this to be honest. XIV is very different to XI.
The next one, if there is one, will be different again, and probably unrecognisable from MMO's today, instead looking more like Destiny or Anthem.
I would want something very different from XIV, even a different, more open battle system similar but not exactly like FFXI.
I'd prefer a brand new world with it's own lore and history. Sure, I'd expect nods and easter eggs referencing 14 and other popular FF games, but I'd want to have a totally different setting than Eorzea.
My personal preference would be for a nice high fantasy setup a la D&D. No computers, no programs, none of the Magitek (sp?) we have now. The most advanced stuff is built by artificers and is approximately on the level of your average Steampunk society when it's just starting out. So the super wealthy might have some interesting home and personal gadgets, or a successful merchant might invest in those newfangled 'airship' things to carry his/her goods, but that's about it at most.
And honestly, I'd like to see a break from the races of 11 and 14 too. Sure, humans and elves tend to be a staple in any fantasy setting, but let's have some fun with the others! A fully developed Ronso/Viera/Moogle race would be fun to have out of the gate. And maybe some totally new ideas as well. Maybe some equivalent of Hobbits or Dwarves (the Tolkien variety) instead of Lalas. We could also have fun with some totally non-human ideas. Maybe an actual dragon race a la fairy or mercury dragons from D&D. It would be interesting to play a race that isn't a bipedal humanoid but can still interact with them and wreck things on the battlefield.
That's what I'd like to see. Not everything has to tie to existing lore, or be a tribute to another game. I would love to have the devs crack open the various D&D bestiaries and go to town with something new.
I never played FFXI, but from what I gather Eorzea has a lot of similarities; most of the races are basically the same thing, for example.
I'd like that again. Completely throw out the lore, locations, a lot of the concepts, but take the best of the old and some of the key fixtures and bring them over. First and foremost it should be a Final Fantasy, which means a job system, chocobos (AHEM 1.0), magitek, the big summons, and all that. I think if you take some of what made XI and XIV successful and put them in a Final Fantasy game, I think you'll find a Not Eorzea but basically Eorzea with enough to have it feel both fresh and feel right at home just the same.

We practically already are playing the sequel, of sorts.
To answer the question though, considering the handful of times that FF has dabbled in sequels that ended up being, in my opinion, fanfiction-tier-but-sadly-canonical garbage that usually ended up crapping on the resolutions of the games that preceded them (mainly looking at X-2 and 4AY here, but I'd bet these are not the only examples)... generally speaking, I'd usually just rather have the setting be new every time, to be honest.
@ OP
Naturally, if there was a sequel in the works I would like it to include everything this game has, that implies being set in Eorzea although it doesn't mean the game should be limited to one world.
I've hated those FF games where the player is unable to go back to previous locations just because they were not included. As far as SE strays from Eorzea I still want to have the option to go back to those areas.
For me the idea of a sequel is more like a remake + a new expansion, that carries over everything we have now and paves the way for much more in the future, FFXIV could easily live for a decade more, it seriously needs a graphical upgrade.
I'm not sure what more you would need to handle in Eorzea after dealing with Zodiark and the Ascians, presumably also finishing the Primals for good in the process.
