I'm going to have to say no. I would prefer it be set in a fairly standard fantasy setting, at least as standard fantasy as FF does, but I don't want it to be Eorzea or any specific FF world. There's just too much baggage with Eorzea or any other established world. Too many of those stories have already been told and have too many characters, events, places, etc. that would need to be referenced and name dropped. Just keep it thematically related with some cross over bits and pieces as all FF games have had. Maybe drop in a tidbit here or there that makes you wonder if there is a direct connection or not. But that's really it. No direct sequel/prequel/alternate world/etc. here.

Seeing the trend, it would probably follow the likes of FFXI (FFXIV 1.0) (FFXIV ARR) >> 3 Big City-states / 3 Beastman tribes >> different races but in a whole new world. (I'd prefer that) BUT I want them to leave the "Cookie-cutter / Theme Park" style and go in with fun/sense of danger/discovery in mind. It's what made FFXI so good, the freedom of exploration, the sense of danger.

My wish list for SE's new game would be to branch off of the MMORPG and just do pseudo-MMO / RPG sort of like Bungie's Destiny and be a shared-world looter adventure where balance is off the table and give us fun, unique jobs, gear that changes how you play.

    I can picture a:
Black Mage, and the ability to swap between three different schools:
    • Archaic (Ice / Fire / Thunder magic)
    • Necromancy (Dark magic/Undead magic)
    • Earthen (Earth/Water/Wind magic)

    RDM
    • Fencer (Sword Magic)
    • Ancient (White/Black Magic)
    • Saboteur (Enfeebler / Healer) Plus Refresh, it needs to have Refresh, for a throwback

And they could do that with all the other jobs. Imagine having a DRK and being able to either choose a Tank or a DPS, and play the job whatever way you want to. Heck, be a DRK that focuses more on wielding a Scythe and casting black magic like a BLM.

[These class swap ideas are all stemming from Destiny's class system and how to let's say Warlock has: (Voidwalker / Sunsinger / Stormcaller)] but using a FF style DPS/Tank/Healer framework.

Just spitballing... a man can wish.

Give us a big world to explore, with an excellent narrative, and let us band together w/ other's at random, have big hub worlds, etc. with tons of jobs to play. Keep a semi-job system w/ tanks and such, DPS, healers, support.

That's what I wish the next Final Fantasy MMO shared world game would be like.

I wouldn't mind Job trees, which is what that sounds like. Though I'd probably make a Fire School, Ice School, and Lightning school, even if you can use all three you specialize in one. I'd try to keep the schools very narrowly focused myself. Or possibly make them roles too. So you have your... Debuff, Tank, and Damage schools, or something, for a Black Mage (kind of throwing out the third one as Black Mages don't really have three roles, and not even sure what all roles I'd be looking at).

That is far from plain as other people has already explained.
I doubt there will be an FFXIV-2 at any time. In one way all the Final Fantasy games are sequels of the earlier ones.
Looking just at the MMOs, FF14 is for all practical considerations a sequel to FF11, and similarly any sequel to FF14 will likely be its own game - and hopefully set in a brand new world.

I'd like a new world, and definitely keep the job system as that's a huge draw for me. Can have intermixing or not, I don't need sub job system, but definitely keep 'jobs' and free job changing. DF also another important system I'd like to see continue.

Hopefully the housing system is free form like Wild Star, and before someone say's "but I'll miss neighborhoods!" you can have that too (as Wildstar did too, you don't have to lose your neighbors). Also would look forward to a complete glamour log. As well as other new things that relate to the memory issues FFXIV has had difficulty working around (not saying it's easy, just would love to not have to hear about those issues lol).

Would really love to see it be open world and hopefully bring back the scale of transportation progression (that quite a few sRPG FFs have) and amazement of airships, would love to get end game with my own personal airship (I'd be okay with no wildstar housing if the airship acted as the housing system, although I could see the airship act more like a baby mobile WoW garrison that's an upgrade-able vehicle and then house still being Wildstar scale- very greedy but yeah lol).

I'm actually vaguely interested in them making all jobs heavily unique and non-fixed framework systems through some sort of heavily enhanced limited job is actually 'main' kind of ideal. That idea that normal maining of jobs doesn't have to be homogenized or perfectly balanced BUT the hardcore content will have a more balanced homogenized variant of each job just like our PvP does currently. This way the content that would become exclusive doesn't, but your story and normal / not hardcore content is really unique experience based on who you are and who you play with, but due to a balanced construction for hardcore/pvp you don't have to have all jobs to X like you would otherwise (happened in FFXI and early FFXIV sometimes).

Yet as you play the general game playing X job feels worlds apart from playing Y (as they'd sometimes have entirely unique growth systems and mechanics). As a summoner you might be spending a decent amount of time completing pilgrimages between temples and appeasing gods like a Yuna FFX, while as a ranger or beast master you're in the wilds learning how to craft arrows on the fly and tame the wild, your black mage spending time in libraries and having to learn each spell (but their spell book is freaking loaded, including goofy things like slow fall or view from afar- not everything having to be helpful in combat), blue mage learns from monsters, puppet master has to manage and maintenance their puppet, etc. A game that the casual player could really roleplay their person as and not a huge gotta rush feeling as there is this large casual 'just be and enjoy your job' (each job being basically it's own unique content form, playing the game differently altogether), each job feeling really different because they are and don't even respect each other's growth systems. Yet hardcore content isn't like "stack 12 black mages because boss is weak to fire, if you don't have a black mage then don't come to this content". Might suffer in that some jobs that grow faster will hit end game faster, and may solve that by letting players access their balanced variant faster perhaps (especially if they pass some sort of end game veteran hall or something) or just make players deal with it.. which is maybe a bit too stubborn / old school lol. Point isn't to make the casual, very unique story / normal content, jobs so unbalanced that one sucks in comparison you still want a 'vague' balance- but you wont kill a job's entire identity to make it balanced like you would normally in a game that requires you stay balanced and because it's major content now it will get full financial and creative support ensuring that it's a really good system rather than a side system (and it'll be okay for hardcore content because there will be the hardcore balanced version for that kind of content). Old hardcore content could lose it's restriction on the balanced lock so as raiders move to newer content that's super challenging casual players can still enjoy the majority of content in the game (ultimate should probably always remain a trophy that's a huge pain in the rear, but most content, given time, can be enjoyable by a large variety of player types and styles).

For the combat system itself I wouldn't mind if it went more towards action oriented side of things, with more responsive spells and skills, like a MOBA (with a lot more than 4-5 skills)- basically a faster smoother responsive and intuitive version of what we've currently (which can include some other action combat, but should be carefully balanced not to abandon the FF theme of fighting all together). A big help to that would just be having smart casting and mouse context sensitive spells (so like casting at location of/in direction of your mouse if you have the option on). Things like animation blending and less locking, so that things like your blinks/slash strikes flow and feel closer to an aRPG. With some options in the menus to help with players who find some of the speed and or directional things challenging- like sticky targets, tabing, and other UI still, can keep the aoe markers too for the most part so you can know what direction you need to roll to or what have you.

As per theme I prefer FFIX kind of environment, maybe without the whole Terra thing either- no high tech at all.

Bare in that Eorzea isn't the world, it's a country. Having said that, I'd want to be on a different planet.

On one hand, it might be cool to have a sequel set in the same world, perhaps a few years later with everyone older.

On the other hand, we are already starting to unravel the setting's cosmic mysteries, so I dunno where the story would even go for a sequel. XIV's story seems to be reaching its endgame.

If we dont go to the new world in the next expansions. Then I would like to see it start in the new world.

But let's be real here: not much has evolved graphically since re-launch. Plus the gameplay of more modern MMORPGs seems to be increasingly shifting towards very active non-tab-based systems... which FFXIV isn't going to magically become).

Overall, I think this is a good thing. Games (like WoW) get stale - people want to, at some point, have that 'fresh' feel back in an MMORPG that you can only really experience at the start. Plus, FFXIV's repetitive core story reliance on summoning and fighting primals (or what amount to primal stand-ins [like the wardens]) is arguably already a bit of a taxed narrative. A restart isn't required imminently, but I think we can all acknowledge that in the 2024-2027 (or so) window, it might be time for a new game.

So, to the topic: would you want a sequel to be set in Eorzea? Personally - and I can only speak for myself here - I'd prefer it in one of the other 'high fantasy' FF worlds, such as FFVI's World of Ruin (OR it could be a far, far, FAAAAAR prequel to FFVI set in the World of Balance, during the War of the Magi), or in FFT's Ivalice. I also think the world of FFVII would be interesting, but A) the dieselpunk setting might wear on a lot of people, and B) there don't seem to be a lot of non-human races in that world (or much room to add them without jeopardizing FFVII's core story in retrospect).

But, yeah - I think it might be nice for the next game to let Eorzea 'rest' a bit. Where would you set it?
Personally I do think that we will get a FFXIV-3. FFXIV still makes SE a lot of money and if they can transplant the community into a new game engine for another decade, they can keep the profits rolling in. If they try and make a new world, they risk losing the entire community because FFXIV will end up superior because it's had decades of development and world building. The only thing holding back FFXIV is the dated graphics and old code.
