I actually do work on MMOs, and I actually do see the marketing data. I know how the whole process goes down, and I know what does and does not work.
The simple fact of the matter is that when you make an MMO to easy, people get bored and quit. Why do you think this game gets a week long population spike at every patch. It's not because they just want to see what got put in. It's because they do everything and stop playing. If you didn't notice, the largest drop in this games population, besides launch, occurred when PLing became rampant. It wasn't because people hated the PLing, it was because they finished everything in the game so fast they no longer had a reason to play.
The type of people drawn to these kind of games are the type seeking a long in depth game. Yes, that may not be you, but that makes you the minority. Just like people who play to do Large End game Raids are the minority. That is just how this genre works. Most people play the middle of the game forever. That's how you make money.

Oh awesome! Which ones and what's your role?I actually do work on MMOs, and I actually do see the marketing data. I know how the whole process goes down, and I know what does and does not work.

What?
Are you one of the computers that was programmed to love?
What sorcery is this?
To be honest though a lot of things happened. Aniero put it best on this last week's episode of Push to Talk; How true that is.Originally Posted by Aniero

Also creative differences.
Also real life/work/holiday season.
On the upside, I do plan on releasing something here soon. Still have to write up some show outlines. I'll probably have something available around 1.21 or so.
This is the second time someone called me out on the forums in reference to the show. It really is a pleasant surprise ^^b
p.s. also skyrim

The chemistry you all have is perfect, its a shame you have scheduling issues, I haven't laughed so hard listening to a podcast since Chinchilla was on PFA (*sniff*)!
Plus, you do have a hot voice.
I do hope there is a future for your podcast! ;_; I will be happy to see what you have in store.![]()

I'm floored by the compliments. Thank you very much, especially the Chinchilla reference. *to the drawing board*

Oh thank god no wonder the opinions you express sound so stupid and lacking of any solid basis whatsoever - I was worrying for a second that you were quite literally retarded.
You are clearly a spy, attempting to plant ideas that are bad for the game so that FFXIV will fail, making room for your new MMO "Hug n' Kiss Kitty Online".
So sneaky!
Maybe Rokien is your partner in this new MMO... that would explain.... everything!!!!!!!!!
PS: Your MMO sucks.
You sir, are a liar. You have posted multiple lies and intentional misrepresentations of fact. Just like your claim that "only 10% of any given MMOs active populations makes it to endgame".....Wow, just wow. Not only did you pull that crap out of your backside, any one who does a simple search of MMO polls can see that polled players with any particular MMO after a year has over 80% endgame base.

read that.

First of all, that article backs up everything i said. "End Game" is a marketing strategy to give players something to strive toward. And the Reason he says 5% of the player base can Destroy 95% of the player base is because that 5% are the people who actively dedicate themselves to end game. You sir, are a liar. If you understood anything about marketing, you would know that "Polls" mean nothing because 90% the people they claim to represent do not care enough to respond to a poll. These are also a marketing strategy designed to feign interest and show dedication to the fan base in the hopes that people spread good word about the development of the game.
It's the same effect that is readily apparent in this forum. The people who post here are the vast minority. Less than 10% of the population. This vocal minority are the people who actively seek End Game.
The way you determine what percentage of the population is actively participating in end game is to check the percentage of account that enter an end game scenario such as an instanced raid when the content is released and then check again 3 months later. By doing so you gain a clear view of the portion of the population that Attempts End Game and the Portion of the population that actively participates.
You may see the number of participants spike to 25% When new content is released, but that number quickly dwindles because most players do not repeatedly play the same content.
