That ship has long since sailed and this game isn't remotely tuned for anything like aggro management anymore. Can you imagine the REEEEEEing that would happen if healers/DPS were expected to start throttling their output to help the tank keep hate like in old MMOs? And trust me, it'll get simpler yet in the coming years. As much as people like to deride XIV for being built around the LCD these days, you still get constant fails for PF/DF. Next on the chopping block will be MP, as soon as the devs figure out a decent replacement for BLM's seesaw management. For that matter, most casting times will likely go the way of the dodo too since it's not as if those spells are offering any kind of increased power requiring such a counterbalance when every single physical type does equivalent damage instantly. You'd be much better served trying to find a game that's built around the kind of complexity you want to see, rather than hoping this one will pull a 180.

I liked aggro combos. It gave another skill branch, additional animations, and the ability to mix up openers depending on what you were fighting. Granted, my tanking experience is solely with DRK, but the simplification of aggro management has taken away a good portion of engagement with enemies. However, I do get that modern tanks need to focus on mitigating damage as much as possible, and I would surmise that the current status of tanks is more meta driven than dev. When players basically say, "Eff tank stance, mas deeps!" all I can say is that I'm not surprised.
I personally miss the animation of Power Slash so much. It keeps me awake at night. T^T

Aggro management actually added very little for tanks, as most tanks thrust that responsibility onto the healers and dps so they could just drop tank stance and go ham on dps.

What tanks need is more active mitigation. But I'm not sure how to make that work.

Honestly, I have no interest at staring at an aggro list. If you want to make tanking more engaging then give a more substantial DPS rotation or make damage mitigation through CDs more clutch.

Staring at a list of names instead of getting to participate in the fight in any meaningful way is why I don't like healing.

And not to mention the other effects the tank stances had, such as Warrior's increased health and health restoration from magic or Paladin's 20% or something damage received down.
Warrior was literally that already in Stormblood. You did a single GCD (Tomahawk) in Defiance and hit Unchained which negated the 25% damage penalty. You then did your standard Storm's Eye combo turned on Deliverance and never touched Defiance again. Butcher's Block was essentially non-existent 99% of the time. Stormblood aggro management was essentially yelling at the DPS for not using Diversion properly. Which I will admit, I do kind of mess. It amused me greatly just how much some people would whine over pressing a single button that did absolutely nothing to impact their damage.

I'd rather the boss fights be more complex and fun instead of re-adding arbitrary micromanagement to make things more "complex" and "fun".

I dunno if I'd go so far as to call threat management "arbitrary micromanagement."

Personally I like the theory, but I can't say it's ever been done particularly well in FFXIV.

Let's take it back to ARR/Heavensward enmity management/DPS stances, and not let anyone have enmity cuts. Issue with Stormblood enmity management was the meta having enmity management not be in the tanks' hands. Those enmity cut skills were intended to help scrubby new tanks, not be technical DPS increases. Which is why they changed it to what we have now.

Personally though, I don't mind what we have now. I'd really rather they remove all the DPS nerfs to tanks that added up over the years, leading to these sanitized tanks we have now that barely pull half of what a DPS can while also having a less satisfying rotation.

The only good thing about the old stance and enmity system was how awesome I felt as a Ninja, being able to control the flow of combat as a DPS.

Some might say I was more than man- I was a God in Hyur form. With a single stroke, healers could fall by my hand and black mages could falter.

One man should not have such power. I advise you to think about this happening once again before you ask for this to return. You may not like what happens.

Then again, some of us do enjoy watching the world burn.
