So what will you do when the point is reached where you wish to see some and not others? Ask for a personally targetable setting where you can deactivate the expression of anyone you don't like and then revel in your own glorious world of censorship?

The correct attitude would likely be to choose your friends more wisely and play with people of a conservative viewpoint. There is something to be said for the notion that a persons glamour is 'them' in all but motion. I personally wouldn't want to remove whatever they choose to wear, as in itself is a medium of communication and I value that and them, a long side my own experience. MMO's were after all based on cooperation and not self dictation or personal supremacy.

It's not like people are unawares that others also pay or have different opinions. But the notion of being able to limit someone to suit your own preference in any shape or form doesn't sit right with me philosophically. Not when they are only likely to bother you in close proximity. At which point, choose your friends and where you go. Not their attire.

It's a simple idea indeed, to realize that whilst this is indeed a game - much of it has been dedicated to expansive systems of personal expression and making the gap between who you are inside and your virtual avatar that bit less vast. Some things aren't choices but tolerances. Which is how they should remain I believe. There is a lot to be learned from someones choice of expression, blinding yourself to it is a loss in so many more ways than most realize.
