My suggestions on improving the system:
1) Make mentor roulette available to everyone and name it random roulette. The purpose is to improve queue times.
2) Make the mentor crown something which is applied for 24 hours when another person awards it to you. Maybe turn it into a gold star or something? Everyone should only be able to award a star once per player, so that those who help a different player every day would stand out. You should be able to give these in dungeons to encourage people to explain fights.
3) Keep the NN a meeting place for new players and players who have experience. Add more mentor categories (pvp, open world) one can pursue to unlock the chat, and make crafting requirements harder.
Edit. Basically the three aspects of being a mentor (roulette, icon, NN) need to be treated as separate systems with separate requirements.

Clearing duties more than once doesn't have anything to do with giving basic advice though. Just like being new to a duty doesn't mean you can't help with rotations or coming up with a strategy to clear if one is needed. The last few times I gave advice in dungeons it was correcting other player's rotations, I would have done exactly the same thing if the duty being run was completely new. Mentoring doesn't need complex rules, it just needs to put willing mentors in contact with sprouts looking for help.I'd say, on top of current requirements they should put *clear a list of duties n-times*, and with new dungeons/trials/raids your crown would just disappear and you would have to unlock it for those new instances, but keep it for those in which you already met the requirements
I actually really love that suggestion. Perhaps putting a requirement such as having one of each job type up (one dps, one healer and one tank) in order to do so, but I think it would be a nicer thing, since yes, it is there to improve queue times.![]()
You don't need a crown to help people in the first place.Clearing duties more than once doesn't have anything to do with giving basic advice though. That's true, but your suggestion has to be coded into the game. What is the return on investment?
And while you don't need a crown to help people, you do need one to freely enter the NN to find people wanting help. If you really want to help people in FF14 you're probably going to seek the crown.
The NN being a problem in itself with mentors clashing with each other.
D00d Im the MASTER MENTOR all should only listen mea god.
It's not crazy hard for the game to be changed to audit the blacklists. There are also other data sources to mine for possible pattern recognition like votekicks enabled or % of partymembers leaving duties early.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
Really just access to NN. Its a large overworld channel. In fact the only overworld channel outside of your regular linkshells or FC chat.

But why would blacklists matter? I for one have them for personal reason, not even meaning the player is bad. I have some RP accounts there (I don't mind them too much, but full RP in dungeons is not for me sorry) and some players from PF EX parties that I don't want to meet again. I just don't see how blacklist shows how you're not a good mentor? Or do you mean if you're blacklisted by half of your server you're a bad player/not a good mentor? (I know a bit extreme and not realistic)
