I don't want things for free, I want consistent quality overall. When stuff in game looks lower grade than mogstation stuff it's an issue in my opinion.

Like someone else said, it's subjective, but you can look at my post on page 7 and judge for yourself how much effort has been put into each outfit.

I don't mind if they put cute things on mogstation that look cool and different, I just want the in game stuff to have that same quality.

If we had caster outfits that had the same attention to detail, I'd be 100% fine with this dress. But no, they gave us floaty shoulder pads with square cuts and huge rivets. It's not like that gear is coming out of Eulmore, you know, the place that's supposed to be super fancy where we see super fancy people walking about with their servants......................

Well, considering the gear is called -crystarium- gear, I don't think it's really coming from Eulmore. Just saying :P

But the simple reality between the quality difference is that the mogstation team is separate from the main dev team. Think about it. Every 3.5-4 months, the main dev modelers have to create hundreds of 3D models for unique gear, and create new textures/color mappings for anything they re-skin. Not to mention all the enemy models for raids, instances, etc that are unique. Taking a look at the eorzea database, they added in several hundred items in patch 5.2 alone (Crystarium, Edenchoir, Neo-Ishgardian, Ruby Weapons, Dalmascan draped set, Corsages for head, Craftsman's apron set, Re-textured gear for Anamesis list goes on, even before counting monster/arena/etc models)

Compare that to the mogstation team, who have barely any workload compared to it. Who knows what their deadlines are, but given the sparsity of their unique additions, I doubt they're anywhere as strict as the main dev team's. So its no surprise their stuff is higher quality; not only do they get more time to work on it, but they aren't as hard pressed as the main dev team is, considering they're having to make hundreds of less models than the main dev team does. I can almost guarantee you that it's not that "they know exactly what they're doing by putting more flamboyant stuff up on the mog and giving us boring outfits." It's simple dev workloads vs time constraints in action. Of course the team that gets to spend literal months painstakingly working on a small number of items will churn out much flashier and well built stuff than a team that has to create 3-4 tiers of ilvl worth of sets for every role (Fending/Healing/Casting/Striking/Maiming/Aiming/Scouting), each with unique models in a very short timespan.

I really don't get how you can not have issues with a game that forces you to buy it, the expansions and pay a sub to access it and still sell you exclusive glamour in the Cash Shop.

I don't feel forced. In fact, I haven't bought a single thing on the Mogstation since July.

What people realize is these items would not exist if there was no Mogstation. So they're okay spending a little extra, occasionally. If you find it too expensive, then don't buy it. Our sub fees go towards the patch cycles and continued access to the game itself. That doesn't mean every little thing they add will be included.

Put simply, you just have to accept micro-transactions aren't going away in video games. The development costs have sky rocketed while retail value remains $40-60. At least some of those costs will be put on the customer. Capcom's CEO wanted to double the retail cost of games several years ago. Frankly, I prefer micro-transactions because I can opt out of those.

Maybe. But still, sometimes it's better that something doesn't exist. After I started the game I saw someone riding a Carbuncle. I was playing Summoner as my main job back in the day, so I thought "Hey, that would be a great mount for me" and I asked them were I can get it. And then they told me. After I bought the game with the expension and was already paying my sub, hearing that I can't even get this mount - no matter how much I play or how good I get at it - until I pay another ~17 € for it was a massive bummer. A wasn't expecting that from a Non-F2P game, not after I already had paid like over 50 € for it.

And now imagine taking it to the extreme, standing in a place where all this people gather with their glamour and their mounts. You are new and you are talking to them "Hey, I like your outfit" "Thanks, you can buy it at the mog station"; "Hey, I haven't seen this hairstyle on character creation" "Well, you can buy it at the mog station." "What about.." "MOG STATION!".

Now would you keep playing this p2p-game after it just turned into an advertising plattform for the in-game-item-shop, right after you bought it and paid your sub? I'm not sure I would.

Whats funny is you are getting all the content for free as part of your sub and your expac purchase.
This Dress and a handful of mounts and other items in the cash shop AREN'T part of the Package you paid for. So people are being "mocked" (in this context) for expecting side items made by a separate team to be included.

This may be my dementia kicking in but I seem to recall, in the olden days, there being cool looking gear and mounts that you could indeed get for free as part of your sub and expac purchase. Whats really funny is now these things cost more than the damn sub. But alas we are in the age of microtransactions and it's not changing anytime soon.

I get tired of these stupid threads. It's like people don't understand the purpose of microtransactions. Your sub allows you a pass to play the game. It doesn't entitle you to anything else. If they want to sell something and those with a little extra cash want to buy it, then there's no harm. Stop being up in arms about Mog Station. It's not going away. It's not predatory. It's not forcing you into anything. There's no benefit to buying anything from it other than getting a neat looking thing. Just stop the damn whining.
