To summarise various points: It kills can kill the exploration-taxonomy in maps, reduces the number of travelers on the map's land routes (socializer-taxonomy), and the flight system prioritizes A to B travel and ease of movement in an objective based system (no adventure, over trivializes aspects of travel example: bofuri ep 7 angel mode quest)

Exploration- Nothing is stopping you from exploring if you want to, it is not like it is being forced on you. Also it won't affect new players/characters since you have to go through the MSQ and finish the MSQ "The Ultimate Weapon" as one of the requirements so they will still have to go through ARR on the ground. It is not like new players will start out with flying.

Reduces number of travelers on the land route (Socializing)- I mean I don't really see that many people on the land routes and how many people stop and chat? I am sure it's not a huge number. Again nothing stopping you from using the land routes and talking to the new players/characters that are running around the land.

the flight system prioritizes A to B travel and ease of movement in an objective based system (no adventure, over trivializes aspects of travel example: bofuri ep 7 angel mode quest- If adventure is important to someone they can still use the land route and go explore and have an adventure, again this doesn't affect new players etc since you have to go through the ARR MSQ to unlock.

a&c) This is kind of moot since "convenience is king", so everyone will just fly regardless. Especially, in the post game stuff. And, the last content that was made to appeal to players in the explorer taxonomy outside of the MSQ was after the Copied Factory Alliance raid or the second volume of the lore book. And instead everyone is made to rush to acquire aether currents as quickly as possible, which leaves very little time to just take in the atmosphere and little incentive to pursue vistas, observe the make-up of the area design, mob behaviors, ponder lore, et cetera until way after the main story in which ppl would normally move on to other media or take a brake which is well after the initial excitement has dissipated. Oh, and the sightseeing log is just like okay-ish, and the potential loss of out of boundry areas paths or obstacles is a bit of a total downer

    b) The socializer taxonomy totally gets way more enjoyment from the people (socializer, killers taxonomies) within the game than the world itself (achievers, explorers taxonomies), and there is a lot of appeal to big cities or populated trade routes for many people, which is why Limsa is super popular. It also says that this game is active in the open world or in towns, which just appeals to most people (ask why loners live and enjoy living in cities)

It's not a moot point. If an individual prefers convenience over exploration and seeing people on the ground, then they should not complain about new convenient travel options. If they don't prefer convenience, then nothing is forcing them to fly. There is no world pvp or competition for gathering nodes which would put that person at a disadvantage.

I spent six odd years arguing in favor of flight on the WoW forums and I'm not reopening that can of worms so I'm just gonna say totally disagree and while this sure isn't something I think was a necessary change (unless they're adding something to make it necessary that they haven't announced yet), I sure wouldn't call it a bad move

As someone on one most popular Servers people a rarely out doing things anyway I maybe occasionally see 1 - 3 other players outside of hunts & popular rare fates, everyone is always in a city state were the main player interactions with other players happen. Players in XIV almost never stop & talk in zones even dungeons are example XIV player base just aren't that much into talking in battle areas.

As for Exploration this adds far more exploration to game as they have now had redo all the zones & thus the ARR will probably in 5.3 be more popular then ever been in years with a lot of players in them exploring all new sights added.

Flight takes away nothing from those prefer ground it is optional choice between Flying through a map or Grounded & unlike WoW we don't have World PvP so flight doesn't mess anything up.

Finally it's not like you get it handed to you at level 1 it's something they'll have to have beaten the 2.0 MSQ to have access to, so all new players still get the ground mount experience base game & expansions.

While I see the point, I disagree.

If people enjoy and want to explore and immerse themselves in the scenery, they'll do so. One of the reasons I left WoW was because of how they constantly tried to force their players to "enjoy" things, or took things away because they felt we didn't know what we liked and it was more fun their way. It was insulting.

We fly because we like flying. The scenery looks nice from the air too. New players will be on the ground from 1-50, then they get a faster form of travel to chew through those extra pre-HW quests and later revisits.
