I don't know whether to facepalm or laugh at this. It's the entire point. The world is in a state of emergency and for many reasons people will be unable to log in due to no fault of their own.
You just don't really care about this at all. Even when I point out that medical staff working hard to save us you're like "eh they got better stuff to do" instead of trying to even vaguely think of how crappy it would be to get overworked for weeks maybe even months, and when it's all over and you look forward to just gaming in a normal boring life again, and an in-game asset you worked hard for (maybe even worked for years to get and decorate) was taken away from you. And on top of that potentially several years worth of furnishings gone, some of which cost you real money.
Just because a person is working in an emergency situation doesn't automatically mean they forget about or no longer want their in-game house. Some of them are day dreaming about having time off and doing leisurely activities when all this is over.
It would be such a slap in the face for SE to not suspend demolition. That would be them sending out a clear message that they do not care that millions of lives are being turned upside-down because of the virus, and that they do not care for their players who also happen to be medical staff working to keep everyone safe including SE.
And when you think about it we all have "more important things to worry about than whether or not they have access to a house in an online game." There are very few people out there who could genuinely say FFXIV is consistently their top priority above all else.
You're grasping at straws here.
Pausing demolition is essentially a press of a button. Adding more wards may require additional server space SE currently do not have. Never mind how with new wards those who were absent due to the corona virus would have to compete with those who were not so there's not even a guarantee they would get a house again.
You really really just don't care at all.
How depressing.
