Awww. Thanks for clearing that up! I didn’t think giving the Hrothgar a lupine option would make much sense, but I was still looking forward to it!Normal characters' hairstyles get partly or entirely switched off when they equip a hat or helm that covers it.
Hrothgar hair isn't programmed as a hairstyle, so most likely it can't be made to switch off in the same way, and would clip through the helm.
He said there was a wolf face. Either it was a mistranslation or he just misinterpreted what he saw.
Later when they released pictures of one of the face models (the one with tiger stripes) some people were saying "oh, that must be the wolf face he was talking about"... it's clearly a cat face as far as I can see, but evidently some people saw it differently and Yoshida seems to have been one of them.
ESO made the majority of the helms either "buckets" that deform to fit over Khajit and Argonian muzzles or open faced. Most of the post 50 FFXIV helms are head swaps with ear additions which work fine for most races since they only have 1 head model. Hrothgar have 4 different head models (one of which has a horn)
It is the 4 different ear variations that make the Viera tricky. All 4 are shapped differently so it is not making 1 ear addon as with the miqo'te/elezen/lala versions, but would require making 4 different versions. Hats are also problematic because each ear set clips differently. With viera they have to make veira versions like the did with miqo'te and it's a lot of armor to change. It also would look really stupid with large ears.

As far as Lupin goes, I think it would be just easier if SE just gives us a Lupin mask and call it a day. It’s what they should’ve given us that one Halloween when the werewolf costume was the prize. We have the hands and feet, now give us the proper mask and done.
I would prefer they revamp and add more customization to every race, add male and female counterparts to the new ones instead of another race.
Feeling like we would never get lupin as playable, id be okish with this as well. If it looked as good as the bunny mask iv been seeing. Would be even better if it was just flat out the lupin head that people could have on any body type that was animated and dyeable.

Yeah, when I said mask I meant like the entire NPC Lupin head like a helmet I guess. I think that would be easy to do.Feeling like we would never get lupin as playable, id be okish with this as well. If it looked as good as the bunny mask iv been seeing. Would be even better if it was just flat out the lupin head that people could have on any body type that was animated and dyeable.

I think before we add anymore races we need to finish adding the ones that were halfway added this expansion...
Particularly the Hrothgar gender lock. While there is a lore reason thinly covering up the Viera gender lock (*)... there isn't even that excuse for the Hrothgar...
(*) I say thinly because... people forget this... the same reason actually exists for Miqote... males are supposed to be very rare... but of course, we have a LOT of NPC male Miqote in game. So this excuse... has worn out it's welcome...

The excuse for both races is the same. The missing gender is very rare. There isn't really a difference at the end of the day, it's just the veira excuse dates back to the old Ivalice games so it's more established, while Hrothgar are rare.I think before we add anymore races we need to finish adding the ones that were halfway added this expansion...

However, the truth for both races is simply a matter of them not having the resources to do both genders for both races. They decided to instead split the difference and add viera and a beast race, instead of fully fleshing out one or the other, and the lore is only an excuse. The real reason is they just don't have the resources on the team to handle it. And if they ever add male viera/female hrothgar, it won't be because the lore changed, it'll be because they managed to get the resources to do them. It's the exact same with Miqo'te, highlaners and Roegadyn in 1.0, and their matching parent races in XI. It's all about resource allocation, lore is just an excuse for it, not the actual cause.

Lol its funny, apparently the Lupin were popular, but for some reason instead of updating the models and giving customization options for player characters, they decided to make the Hrothgar from scratch.
Honestly, Id think the Lupin would be in the same boat, limited head options. Not even the enemies or NPCs had headgear designed for them

I've tossed this around a bit but I actually do wonder if people would be ok with them adding in a non limited race or giving us the counter parts to these races but designing them as to not be limited because they see how well that went over this time.
Not that I think they would do either, they have said in so many words that there's no point in adding something that's not extremely unique at this point in time so I expect the counter parts to be just as limited but I really could see them forgoing that in favor of adding a small cute beast race.
