Turn the AFK timers on game-wide and leave it on. Close the loopholes around leaving retainer windows open. If you're not actually playing that long, stop taking up server space.

There are far more ways to stay logged in than keeping a retainer window open, several of which can't reasonably be coded against. Just need to set autorun and voila. Or use a programmable kb or mouse and have it click and drag the camera one pixel once every 5 minutes. Etc.
Server space isn't the issue either, aside from the first week or two after launch when everyone and their dog wants to log in and play. That's why they enact the inactivity timers then and then remove them in the first major patch. Another example is server space does impact The Firmament because it is instanced with limited space and that's why they still have the inactivity timer in place for it.
Load times and fps drops for people with potatoes for computers due to the number of textures and models that need to be loaded in and displayed at the same time is what is the actual issue that people are having here, not server space.

Eulmore can be just as bad. For awhile they had that area segmented just like Rak'tika is today, they should just re-add it and that'll solve that one instantly. Considering how small that area is, very easy to swap instances.
Very true. It's time to end AFK loitering by Limsa Thots, and it's usually same people every day. It's time to free up more resources for those of us who actually play the game.I agree with the log-out timer for Limsa- People stand in AFK as if they want to be admired. If anyone reading this does this; trust me, noone cares about your fashion since it's been done 100x. You probably have a plain, alabaster Miqote, Viera or Au Ra with white hair, wearing all black anyways.
Just log out at an INN for that cute roll-out-of bed scene, the retainer bell or market board isn't going anywhere.
How come I had a login queue of 64 last night then?Server space isn't the issue either, aside from the first week or two after launch when everyone and their dog wants to log in and play. Consistent AFKers are taking up server resources, no getting around that.
The login queue has nothing to do with how many people are in Limsa or your location in game when you log in and does not determine whether you will see lag in game or not. It is a server-wide comdition based on total population, so Eulmore, Ul'dah, dungeons, ocean fishing, Diadem, The Firmament, and every other populated zone counts towards it.Eulmore can be just as bad. What a way to avoid my point, it does. The hefty amount of AFK people in Limsa affects the entire server. The login queue has nothing to do with how many people are in Limsa or your location in game when you log in and does not determine whether you will see lag in game or not. It is a server-wide comdition based on total population, so Eulmore, Ul'dah, dungeons, ocean fishing, Diadem, The Firmament, and every other populated zone counts towards it.
I'm not avoiding your point. You're having the wrong point. People in this thread are complaining about having lag and frame rate issues in Limsa because of afk people. That has nothing to do with a log-in queue.
The fact that a major patch dropped this week is what is causing your complaint about having a log in queue. In a week or so you won't see one anymore. Assuming that you're not one of those people that only shows up for patches, of course, in which case you're the one contributing to your own problem.

People with PS4s generally have the biggest draw rate issue in Limsa, even with a high-end like myself on 4k running max settings, you'll still get the worse frame rate in the game in Limsa. It's not unbearable. But the fact of the matter is there are a lot of PS4 players and those with medium settings even without unlimited are still privy to the frame rate issues.
For the people who said oh just use another city, I've been Limsa aligned since 2014.
Read your message again. I was responding about the login queue, and Limsa AFKs is part of the reason why servers are full nightly, just like tonight with a queue of 86. It's still full even before the patch, not every server is queue free. The login queue has nothing to do with how many people are in Limsa or your location in game when you log in and does not determine whether you will see lag in game or not. I'm not responding about frame rate, even when you get in that's a whole another story.

Well it's been said already why, but I'll also add that there is no conveniently cheap way to get there by foot/mount and it's better for some people to just basically live in La Noscea/Limsa
It would be worse if it had an MB right there in the plaza.
This. It doesn't matter if it stops everybody - it will seriously reduce the number of people sticking around afk doing nothing.
Being logged in = using bandwidth = server load. If you aren't playing, get off.
Also, for people who do use workarounds to stay logged in for weeks at a time, add a daily, server-wide forced logoff. If you're on at 3:00am sharp or whatever, you get booted.
