I agree I feel it's a chore in it's current state not that I don't like DoL but I tend to stay away because I don't like the % of chances I get something I'm not aiming for. For instance I don't want a bunch of xxx=junk when I could just have 10 cobalt ores that I need I rather completely fail the gathering attempt than have a bunch of junk in my inventory. I do believe your suggestion is streamlined and needs a little bit more but you are definitely on the right track.

I love DoL animation though should definitely keep that

I agree with a bit of both sides of the discussion.. At first I found gathering to be really fun -- however after awhile it becomes extremely----- tedious.. I found it relaxing -- yes -- but it did keep me away from things I enjoyed the most aka combat.. now some will say well don't craft.. well I want to craft and gather but it takes up way more time than any DoW class.. which makes a little bit of sense but I mean it's kind of extreme at the moment I think.. It should take longer -- but it shouldn't require me spamming enter a thousand times either..

As far as fixes go, I've always thought that making a funner mini-game would be nice.. I like EQ's crafting .. takes a slightly shorter amount of time to craft the items compared to XIV but the mini-game is fun and the exp TNL isn't ridiculous -- granted there is a grind, and if you want to make anything worthwhile you will find yourself grinding -- however the grinding is MUCH more bearable than the current system and that's saying a lot because I normally detest crafting ..

Gathering in most MMO's that I have played, (EQII, WoW), was very much streamlined. This led to an increase to materials, yes, however it also allowed for newer players to jump on board the crafting train early on and allow them to purchase mats cheaply. If you make it easy it turns out not to be so bad.. Look at WoW economy.. the gathering system is as easy as it gets - same with crafting .. yet the mats sell like hot cakes regardless and it rewards anyone who invests some time into a sense that they are making progress... In XIV I can grind a DoL for an hour or so get a bunch of mats then I have to spend another 3 hours crafting it all.. -considering I can even craft it-- IDK I'm starting to loose my train of though but I think you get the idea..

TlR -- Simple doesn't always mean bad -- tons of MMO's made it simple and it is pretty enjoyable -- be creative not monotonous and boring.

Also -- I think that a ridiculously tedious system promotes bots more than an easy one -- one could feel overwhelmed by the fact that gathering takes up so much time and would rather do something more productive -- however the faster and simpler way -- which may take just as much time yet feels less- wouldn't because it doesn't overwhelm the player.

I'm against it cause your idea would increase the time we spend hunting down new nodes which is where most of our time goes. Honestly I think Gath is trolling again here.

Everyones one gil is worth more then Gath's one gil to me.

I don't like OP's idea. It brings out the fun of gathering, I like mini-games and Discipline of the Land should a stay a main DISCIPLINE not become a silly side dish.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

I too enjoy mini games however the mini games in place right now are ridiculously repetitive, boring, uninteresting, and random. I understand "fun" is a subjective term and in your honest opinion you could find it fun. However in my opinion there are other ways to make the DoL classes fun outside of their gathering, as of right now DoL does 1 thing and that is gather, pretty narrow if you ask me. I would love to see some of Tanakas old ideas, were DoL contributed to battles or other events.

SE has many imaginative ideas just look at the gathering system in WAKFU, id say that is a step in the right direction (im speaking of the ecosystem). the above was just an example of imaginative and creative design outside of the norm, i am not saying FFXIV should have "the above system."

    1) removal of mini game will remove the fact its an actual class and make it more about going out and quickly getting materials with NO EFFORT WHATSOEVER.
    2) removal of the mini game will make it boring
    3) the influx of materials due to removal of mini game would be so much there would be no point in doing it anymore unless it was for yourself because prices would drop so much

    4) while we are at it, if you think this is seriously a good idea, perhaps we should just be allowed to click on mobs and choose all the drops from them and move from mob to mob doing so without fighting?

The only thing I think they should really do is add more gathering points for Botany and Mining. Break the materials into different sub groups. Add more visibly different gathering nodes that reflect the things they drop.

For example. Instead of having a general <tree> that drops oak, maple, ash, and every other wood under the sun, add those specific trees to the game. For lower level botanists, you would either have to research/memorize how the different trees looked or use trial and error to find the one you want (if you're even concerned with getting a specific type of wood). Once you have become higher level, the Arbor Call ability will gradually have items added to a mini menu that would pop up when pressing it. So once you're say, 25, you can Arbor Call > Oak and you'll be directed to the nearest oak tree which will only drop oak logs/branches.

This could be expanded upon by adding a visible beehive to certain trees in a particular zone. Setting the notch to +4 or +5 will allow you a chance to strike the beehive and collect 1~X beehive chips before that particular hive is exhausted and you must move to another tree that has a beehive in it.

Gathering patches could have a cluster of plants instead of just being a sparkling bush. A particular harvesting location could have 3~4 targetable plants in a cluster which will give you your 1~8 or so gathering attempts. Like with the trees, at lv1 you won't know the difference between a Flax plant and a Cotton plant, but as you become higher level you will remember where certain materials are and can harvest more efficiently.

Just my "1 gil" lol. I don't see anything wrong with the current minigame, but applying the example above to both Mining and Botany would make it much more intuitive and dynamic than it is now while still preserving the fundamental aspect of the classes.

EDIT: Just another side note; as you leveled up the names on gathering/harvesting points could change from "???" to what they actually are. So once you're a high enough level you can target the Flax plant and it will say "Flax Plant" instead of "???", or "Oak Tree" instead of "???" etc

I like gathering the way it is. Just speed up the animations.

I enjoy the fact that the amount of "Likes" Gath gets per thread is on a very steady and severe decline.

Other than that, I have to agree that speeding up the animations would be okay. Perhaps to make it more interesting, make it so that the "accuracy" of a hit doesn't strike from so far away. I'm kind of amazed at how big the range is on the meters to actually hit the sweet spot. Then again, this could really hurt people on slower machines/connections, so maybe not. Either way, I think the basic structure of the mini-game is just fine. If it's not your cup of tea, then ignore it. Many people ignore crafting for that very reason.

I rather enjoy gathering for the most part. I am almost 50 on my miner and recently started bot/fish and I found them to be enjoyable so far. Sure beats the heck out of DoH in my opinion. I find DoL to be one of the thing I feel, as a whole, they have done right from the start.

Please do not change a thing.
