No. Smoking is gross.

No, the ERSB and PEGI rating already include smoking in this game.
As Metsonm pointed out in the next page there is the difference between something happening in the story by other characters and the playable character doing it. I have also not stated that I think that this makes it family friendly, this may have been the point of the person you quoted but my point was more that just because these things are in the game does not mean that our character should be able to do them. So, quick question. What part of "only the bad guys do this" makes the game family friendly? Those themes still exist in game.
Not to mention the fact that "kids might think smoking is cool and good" is very much reminiscent of the "video games cause violence irl" pearl clutching.
I think smoking a pipe would be an acceptable middle ground, some characters would look pretty cool doing it in game but I don't think said cool factor would really translate across into real life.
LotR's didn't get kids into pipe smoking, I don't think FFXIV will either.

Serious question. Are those ratings the same worldwide? Because if they're not then maybe in certain regions adding the ability for players to smoke would make the age rating for the game rise.
I wouldn't use this myself but I have to admit that the image of a dapper elezen in Ishgardian glams smoking a pipe would look pretty amazing.
I would absolutely hate such a disgusting emote. Maybe it's because I hate when people stink up everything next to me and I can't stop coughing and can't breathe properly and have to get away from those people as quick as possible. I don't know how it is where you all live, but here people usually don't care if the people next to them can't take the smell or get sick from it. So I'm sorry that I hate it. I know that it sounds a bit excessive... but it's like if someone is scared of spiders or snakes and you would ask them if they would want to see any.
Actually, cutting yourself doesn't physically hurt the people standing next to you, but only yourself. So you're right, you can't really compare it.
Yes I would because it's a game and they should get over themselves on digital games. Also, many things smoked in pipes have no smell and no issues what so ever...I would absolutely hate such a disgusting emote. Honestly, if I knew someone was scared of a spider I would put a spider on them, same goes with snake so they get over that pathetic fear. Next Again, its a game... its not like your nose is in the game. I mean, that's basically like a vegan complaining about in game food being meat lol
This is why games today suck and people make horrible movies/tv shows this days because everyone doesn't know the difference in fantasy and reality obviousely. Real life Morality real life issues with stuff shouldn't prevent any shows ever made. So many snowflakes in this world use well I hate this because real life, or so many bad things from X in real life I dont want it in the game. Its a fantasy ....

Honest question, are you bothered by the fact that you are forced to take a life in this game? You take away all he's got, and all he's ever gonna have. Isn't that just disgusting?I would absolutely hate such a disgusting emote. I honestly don't know how to look up which video game rating system a country like the Federated States of Micronesia uses. In fact, google fails me when I try to look up the Game Software Rating Regulations rating for FFXIV. But as with certain region exclusives, content does not necessarily need to be released in all regions.
There is also this stance which the devs could repurpose for us to use.On a technical level, the animation for such an emote actually already exists in the codebase; a fairly major NPC in the Stormblood storylines has and smokes a pipe. (That said, I suspect it only exists in there for the one gender/race—it's not like anyone else uses the animation—which means if they added it as an emote they'd probably have to make the appropriate variants for everyone else.)
On a social level? I'm not super fond of smoking, but I can also see the benefit for screenshot purposes and roleplayers and such.

Sure thing, I'm not a fan of smoking IRL, but I'm able to separate IRL from video games and would love to see my femroe smoking like Yotsuyu. I love the pipe she uses
