RDM brings an emergency fail-safe kit and pays for it in raw prolonged dps. If everything goes perfectly, then your party had a slight dps loss. If it doesn't go perfectly, then you have the kit to save you. I'm happy with this trade-off and glad that a role can fill this niche.

In the hypothetical situation vercure were removed, you'd see some damage buffs bringing rdm into "just another damage dealer" territory. I'd roll my eyes but be fine with that. I would also, however, mourn the loss of my solo RDM deep dungeon runs that I enjoy.

The problem described in this thread sounds like more of a decision making problem - using spells out of place. I'd wager that deleting vercure would only be treating the symptom. Without it, the decision making process behind the bad usage will still remain. I'd also argue that having the capacity to make the wrong choices in a fight is important to an engaging and fulfilling experience.

    Honestly I agree with that.

One place I use Vercure a LOT more than you'd think is in Dungeons. Tank's running along with a huge pile of mobs on him for a pull and the Healer is lagging waayyy behind... I've seen tanks drop many times because the Healer didn't get there in time to save them, so generally I'll be tossing Vercures on the tank until the Healer catches up.

More like an... I've got your back dude.

Had this happen just recently in The Burn in a roulette. Healer was new and didn't know the lay of the land, and sometimes that tank would get dangerously low. After the first time the tank dropped and I quick Ressed him and after that point... I was doing Vercures on him to keep him alive during pulls.

Doing E7N with a ton of first timers we had a Superstar RDM who was raising all over the place. If they weren't there and the healers had died to something, we would have wiped for sure.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
