I haven't seen anyone explain why this is a bad idea any better than "because I don't like it".

Ok here is reasons why.

Fashion is a statement, and is a money maker for players and it is a social aspect of the game. Players able to disable it, not only turns off an aspect of what many people spend millions of gil on. It would suck having to manage two sets of gear to make said statement.

and another reason is. I don't like people having the power to control what I look like. That is it. I mean that alone would be enough, but all of it is more valid than immersion.

I was simply curious. It struck me that you seem to only really invest in glamour and only dabble lightly in the other aspects of the game - which made me wonder if this is just a case of you overestimating the importance of glamour pursuits when it comes to other players. You also seem to assume that people don't care about the look of their character, or themselves if they're not interested in your character...which is a bit odd.

I mostly make gil, but I do talk with people and be social in it. I don't really like the combat in this game, so I stay away from harder content that I don't want to invest time into. So crafting/gathering the story and being social is what I play this game for.

Which is fair enough. I dabble in a bit of everything and like collecting various things - glamour, minions, mounts and emotes in particular. I also like decorating my house. I'm sure other people in the thread have different priorities with some overlap here and there - but with such a large player-base with varied interests sometimes the best compromise is something like the OP's proposal. There's a lot of micro-communities within the community after all. I know people who play solely for fishing and nothing else. Others who play only for the story. I couldn't bring myself to play a game solely for one element, so I don't understand the mentality - but I respect it.

I don't think it's unfair to ask that such respect is shown for those who may want additional options to make the game more suited to their personal tastes.

To compromise just for the sake of it. I'm not about that life. I need to understand why. When told immersion, I point out story elements that have people in silly outfits. After that, no other answers. Immersion and story goes hand and hand.
