This is just a general, broad response, I'm not replying to anyone's comments in particular, or being overtly specific.
I typically despise game combat, in any game. I like creating stuff, building, having funs with the family (it's one great way for me to do things with my daughter, that's for sure), that sort of thing. So I can easily understand when someone says, they don't like the combat and they just want to engage in the story. Sometimes you do get hooked into a thread and want to follow it, even if it means doing things you don't like/enjoy/find hard. The reason I stick around here is not because of combat; I have no need to challenge myself in that way, or prove anything to myself. I know my limits, and some things will never get better, even with practice. But because I know those limits, I will not be endagering anyone's savage or extremes or whatever. I love that there's that stuff for the people who enjoy it, but my enjoyment is found in different places the game provides. I like that I can (generally) take my sweet time to get things done, and most things are quite accessible. I've said to my husband from the get-go, all I want to do is keep our FC/private house in good repair and decor, and make furniture for a living. Occasionally go fishing for big fish (this is the ONE TRUE ENDGAME, by the way). Craft my gear, take my time and enjoy the scenary. The MSQ is (if not for the story I enjoy), the means to that end. I'm happy for a quiet(er) life.
That said, apparently I've sunk 3500 hours or thereabouts into this. It's probably a drop in the pond compared to many people, but I think it's testament to the fact that I do like this place a lot. I also know I got better at the combat, simply by wanting to be at least passable when having to work with others. I take that quite seriously! I'm nowhere near some other people, for sure, and I don't think I'll get much better, but it's certainly enough, for me and to get through story stuff, and usually so I'm not a burden in a mandatory trial.
I believe there's room for everyone, really there is. Just a little effort is required sometimes if a particular duty is hard for whatever reason. We're all different with different experiences and perspectives; no one is a better human being just because they do or do not get through one bit of content. An MMO is not a traditional game in one sense, it's a themepark thing because to keep in business it wants to offer many things to many people. So it's completely normal if there are parts of it that some people do not get, do not like, have issues with, and it's completely normal if there's parts of it that some people love, adore, want to keep riding on over and over until they're sick and then get back on to do it all again. You're not a greater individual for going on that big rollercoaster over there, and you're not a lesser individual if you go on it and find it total nightmare you'll avoid in the future.
My only caveat is if you are going to play with other people, you need to work to be the absolute best you can be and to be totally realistic about it. Be honest and understand how you operate when it comes to these things. Tool tips are awesome. Asking people here is awesome (yeah, you'll get people who are clearly having bad days responding, but that's par for the course and it reflects more on them than someone asking a question. They just need hugs and a cup of tea). Watching a video on something before taking part in it is awesome prep if you know you're slow at picking things up on the fly. Not wasting other people's time is awesome. Think less of your self, and more of others when it comes to this. Don't do it when you're having a crappy day.
Also, if you're going to ask on a game's forum about a particular duty you're not doing well in, perhaps phrase it as "I'm having a situation in Duty X, I'm failing X mechanic, how do I not fail X? Thanks" rather than "X IS 2 HARDDd! HWO DId ThIS paSS Qa?!?!?" because that's setting up the forum cannons like it's 1812.
I love how someone mentioned TSW earlier. For story and atmosphere, it's probably my favourite game ever. It's what I always wanted to pootle about in. The combat was, however, effing terrible and a blight on humanity. TSWLegends reworked the combat so it's bearable. Still horrid, but bearable. I had a blast playing through it, and it's my current back up if I have to drop my sub here for a month or so, as I have more to do there.
Anyhoo, enough of me burbling on and wanting everyone to be kind and excellent to each other. I have an airship to continue! (thank you so, so very much, SE, for allowing us small (3-person, only 2 subbed, family-) FCs to craft these things without needing to drag poor people off the streets! I love my new workshop!)
Have a great day, everyone.![]()
