Sadly you will find very few folks on the forums who agree
It's clear you didn't read any of the comments here as most have offered ways to look for improvement. As far as I've seen, no one claimed they were lazy and no one said they should quit. Stop conjuring falsehoods and actually find ways to improve instead of playing the victim.

My wife had some problems with some of the story fights. It did not make her want to get better, all she did was ask me to watch her. I saw the problem, and did it for her. This might be a shocker, but some people just don't care to get better. They play for the social part and story. Heck the dungeon parts of the game are annoying to her.

In case it wasn’t clear: I do not seek out optional difficulty, so don’t worry about seeing me in your harder modes in the game. This is true in any game I play, not unique to FFXIV. So you can all relax. I am fairly confident that I’m up to the challenge for any base core story content that is put in my way. The only concern I have is that I cannot formulaically promise myself that that will always be the case because of the design philosophies of “you’re level X you should be this good by now.” That doesn’t ever bother any of you? I’m seriously asking here.
If you poured the necessary hours to level into a job and you aren't meeting certain benchmarks set by the developers, then that should tell you that there's something you're missing or doing wrong. Even the regular high level dungeons require that people mostly know how to do their jobs. So, no...it doesn't bother me that the role quests exist because they prepare people for what's required of them in the upcoming content. This is no different than any other video game where you get to a hard boss and have to up your game to progress the story.

In fairness to Elladie, at least two people in the thread have told OP some variation of "games aren't for you, this game clearly isn't what you're looking for," and one of them rather snarkily said to "go watch TV" instead. :P

Not that I necessarily agree with the way the OPs posts are framed, but there are definitely some less than helpful responses in here too.

Then she is "playing" the wrong game.

or the classes and combat is so boring dull that it does not get people wanting to get better. It works both ways.

This game combat is the weakest link to many.

    That is some backwards logic.

Nah, this game combat blows. Who cares if she is good at it or not. She is here for story and crafting/gathering. The combat is just a means to see it.

She makes the game what she wants it to be, and if she got to group with others to see story. Well blame developers

Why would someone continue to play a game they find boring or dull? At that point, you might as well unsub.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but I read it as "the game is boring so people don't want to get better".

Because this game offers more than just combat? It has a crafting, gil making, social aspect also? I mean have you tried to get people into this game? The first thing they always tell me. Combat blows.
