I truly don't understand being against something because someone out there might possibly utilize it in a negative way. You deal with those cases individually, you don't deny the entirety of something because of a potential outlier..

I mean, I'm inclined to agree with you? I also think that we tend to over-emphasize the bad experiences on this forum rather than focusing on the good; I don't even think that it would be the bulk of the interactions with a feature like this. (Even if I personally am admittedly not super keen on the idea of this feature, as noted before.)

But I do think that swinging the other way and saying no one would be rude about it isn't really true either, and I suspect that even if they were not the majority, the instances where it did happen would be called out here on those forums at length (and high volume) and gnawed on like a hyena with a bone—just as seems to happen any time someone encounters a mentor they feel is toxic, or a raider, or an ACT user, or whatever else. So the issue would sound a lot more prevalent and overwhelming than it would probably actually be.

(On the other hand, I think probably the issue about "other players are wearing glams I find ruin my experience" is itself being amplified and overblown in a similar way to all those other issues just listed...)

I know I quoted you in particular but it was more a response to this thread in general.

Realistically speaking I don't think anyone really truly believes that no one will be rude about it but I feel like a lot of people in this topic vastly overestimate the amount of people that would and that's why a lot of them are against it too. There's no population that's 100% free of people who do or say bad things. I also don't think that the feature would be put in-game with the GMs allowing people to use it as a weapon against others considering you can be reported for just about anything nowadays. I think that it'll be far closer to a might possibly than a probably because even if they turned off someone's glamour for a negative reason it's enough for them to turn it off and not risk their accounts by saying anything about it. So even if it is used for negative reasons by a given player in question it still most likely won't come back to the person it's being used against so it's functionally no different than if someone is using it because they just want to preserve immersion or whatever other reasons they may have. It's in the same line as people not stealing because they want to but don't want to go to jail versus them not stealing because they truly don't believe in doing such a thing, in the end the result is the same in that they aren't stealing.

I agree that it's overblown as well but having the option allows some people to be happy without impacting someone else's experience (even if we find their reasons to be weaker) isn't a bad thing.

Indeed, that what was my whole point in bringing in such a hypothetical scenario.

Much like the recent disaster with datamining and world first's clears, it's more than possible than a few bad apples could ruin the feature for everyone, given how heavy handed Square Enix's response to harassment is in FF14.

The devs likely wouldn't want to risk opening a can of worms in regards to individual toggles to player's glamour.
