Foxclon recently a follow-up in regards to our last update that I'll share here as well. It will be a bit longer before we announce all the details for the server merge, but for those users that are quite concerned with character names, we want to share some details ahead of time.

In the case that a character’s name overlaps with another character due to the world merge, except for the character that has priority, a name change will be necessary. We are currently at the stage where we are working out the details for what constitutes priority, but we are planning to have a couple of requirements to determine which character name takes priority. We will be announcing the details on priority order, timing, and details on the merge along with the main world merge announcement, so please wait just a bit longer.

And if you're worried about things like your Lodestone History if a name change takes place, rest assured that Lodestone and other areas will automatically be changed and content like your history will remain as is.

Would it be possible for us to have the option to change our names this upcoming server merge, Regardless if you have a conflicting name issue?

In the case of a Server Merge: (Where SE says you on server A must leave and move to either server X,Y or Z)

Bay, all SE needs to do on this is allow priority to the person who registered that Character Name First who also happens to have an active account (i.e. is paying to play the game). Because, honestly had both players tried to register for the same name on the same server, whoever registered it first would have the name, the other person would have had to come up with something else. The 'must have an currently active account thing' is just to keep people from whining that it's unfair that someone who quit 8 months ago kidnapped their name. This just seems like the simplest and most fair way.

In the case of Server Transfers (where a player decides to leave a server to go to another but SE doesn't force the decision)

Name Priority should remain with the person who was ORIGINALLY on the server in question so long as they have an active account. They are already known by that server's community by that character name. The 'new' player will not be known by their character name on that server yet so they should be the one who chooses a different name. Also, since the player decided on their own accord to swap servers, the people already on that server shouldn't have their lives affected.

Although SE could also send an notice/announcement to players with shared names warning them that they may be prompted to do a name change if/when server mergers happen. Maybe allow them to 'volunteer' somehow for a name change if they feel like being gracious etc. Or at least warn them which servers have 'shared names' so they could choose to avoid them if they love their character name so much.


This being said, I also remember reading in a dev post awhile back something about possibly dropping surnames and/or requiring characters to have shorter names. So this could all be moote as many/all of us might need to rename ourselves.

Names of active characters should take priority over those who are not activated.

Take care also not to merge too many servers.

Do it like FFXI >.> It will take too long and too complicated if they got to go through who was active first or who has more achievements and stuff ; ; But meh regardless they will do it how they gonna do it..no matter what we say.

Besides..we should all get to change our name in 2.0 no? Race/gender change without name change would make 0 sense as I seen someone post on here before there last name was "Chick" lol wouldn't work too well...
