Letter from the Producer, XXIII (01/23/2012)

This past week I had to take a trip and stayed at a hotel. The cleaning lady and I got into a conversation about how she had been working 9 days in a row, and also was cleaning up a house she would be moving into. There was no purpose to this conversation, just a little care for someone else, a perfect stranger. Paying someone is no excuse to treat them like they are your personal slave.

If you want Yoshi-P to treat you like you are nothing more than an object from which to extort money, I suppose that is your prerogative. But I want an environment in which we are all friends and family to some extent, albeit a dysfunctional one maybe. I like these letters and I'm glad to hear of the well-being of the team.

So they're not allowed to use their forums for anything other than business? Twitter and all is fine, but they also have forums, incase you know people don't use twitter or facebook and it reaches everyone in the supported languages.

Now to go find the kittens Yoshida slaughtered by posting something personal..need to give them a proper funeral, much like I need to find the children he's holding for ransom >.>...

(That's how silly it is to get worked up over them posting something about the dev team rather than jobs will be released on x day.)

If they didn't do their job, then yes, I would be annoyed. But Yoshi-P is doing his job, and the producer letters are his twitter. On top of that, several people have stated that such a personal letter is customary for New years in Japan.

Also, it's fine that people would like to have more information, but it's also possible to ask for that in a way that wouldn't sound so rude and indifferent. If you are indifferent to (or about) other people, you will get indifference back.

"It's nice you guys had fun. I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well, but I was hoping for some news on the game. Could you please let us know what's going on?"

Responses like this would have avoided a lot more of the negativity in this thread.

there's nothing wrong with not liking this letter. this letter would have been just as good going on their twitter page. i AM NOT a friend of yoshi nor the dev team. i am a paying customer that wants info on the game i am paying for. i hold them to the same standard i do any other company that i am paying for a product.

Welcome to the real world, where deadlines are not moved back just because you have a cold, and where customers are entitled to respectfully demand information and updates on products they pay for.

I haven't seen a single post here being disrespectful to Yoshi p or the development team, they just say "keep your personal stuff to your facebook, we don't care" which is a perfectly valid point, yet a LOT of abuse coming from the SE fanboys, as if someone had insulted their whole family. Sad people.

No one has expressed any hatred towards Yoshi & the Team but there is an awful lot of hatred being spewed at peeps who simply stated that they would have liked to see more info about the state of the game (as opposed to the state of Yoshi's health).

Maybe this will turn out to be the Best Producer Letter Ever if the WhiteNights and SE Fanboys get so disgusted with the rest of us that they finally quit and stop blocking game improvements by constantly telling the rest of us to "quit if you don't like the game".

Those of you who constantly complain about the "community" are actually the problem. You continue to defend a failed game that still has a loooong ways to go to be successful and every time someone tries to make a suggestion on how to improve the game...you jump all over them and tell them "don't let the door hit you on the way out".

Some of you almost seem to want the game to never appeal to a wide audience so that you can have your little Final Fantasy MMO all to yourselves. Who are the selfish ones? The ones who give suggestions (and complaints) that will hopefully lead to a Massively Popular MMO that will last for years...or those of you who really just seem to want 1 full server so you and your other WhiteKnights can enjoy the game in peace?

p.s To Yoshi, I was sorry to hear you didn't feel well and am glad you are feeling better. Hopefully you feel well enough to give us a game development update soon....Oh... and Happy New Year and thanks for tossing my monthly subscription fees into that "wish box" since that's what I am paying for anyway, wishing this game was fun.

Fan boy or no fan boy no one has a right to tell anyone how the game should be. Your just as much in the wrong with disagreeing with the person you disagree with and telling them to GTFO as much as they are for possibly wanting SE to NOT go "every other MMO" route.

I love how people like you make assumptions on who is and who is not a "Fan boy" or w/e other adjective you want to bestow upon them. Wasn't aware anyone here playing the game or even SE had the ability to "know" who is and what they believe in lol.

I am however one of those people who does argue the "I don't want fu*king jump in this game because it's useless." No need for it and if you ARE one of those who thought THIS was what this game needs more than the things that really need to be completed, you're no better than the people you mention of above and neither am I. However, this is off topic and so was your post.

As for it being a "popular" MMO, sorry not looking for the next big WoW clone or anything else, you know, like the SWTORs or Rifts or Aions of the world. You're damn right we want to be selfish and have our own little MMO just like we had XI. If all your optioning for opinions to make this game "better" is to make this game like "Every other MMO", that's not better that's copying.

the thing was i just read the letter originally. i was not going to post on it at all, honestly. i then start reading this thread and see people calling people in the community many horrid names. of course with the mod staff we have there would be no point in reporting the posts. that is what finally forced me to make a post on this topic.

if you liked the letter that is fine. if you did not like the letter that is fine as well. both should be able to express their opinion on it. neither side are bad people because they liked or disliked the post. the personal attacks on others because they don't agree is what makes someone a bad person and that's what the majority in here has been doing for most of this thread now.

Agreed, like the ones that get pissed off a developer writes a formal letter to his players rather than about gaming information.

This has nothing to do with the game he's working on, i.e any future updates or patches and it clearly wasn't unprofessional for the folks at Relic to post about it too.

This is pretty much how I feel about the issue. And this goes for the rest of the threads in this forum as well. If people would just accept that everyone has different opinions and that, for the most part, people have good intentions (we all want this game to be good, no?), we would have been a much better community.

I can agree with you on this point.

However, try to understand that the anger from the "white knights" came because there are people concerned for Yoshi-P's health, and some responses from the other end made it sound like they did not care if he lived or died. That sort of emotional response should be understandable.

But with that said, let's all try to calm down, yes?
