Jumping into this thread from multiple, potentially controversial views:

In the long haul, I support the localization of Final Fantasy XIV into the Spanish language. As a consumer, I would also expect customer support for in-game situations and billing support in Spanish too. Lest it be the [non-SE game]'s customer service for NA that directs you to an answering machine recorded in Polish or a Polish speaker that has to awkwardly hang up once both parties realize they cannot communicate to each other. I see 2.0 as a better chance of having Spanish and Italian language options.

From a business standpoint, I support the localization of FFXIV in any language where localization, customer support, and accounting costs are easily covered by the success of the purchases and subscriptions from customers in the represented language. And unfortunately from that standpoint, if everyone here is already a paying customer of those languages, would it be necessary to hire employees to support that player base? Or expect those players to conform to a language already being used?

On the up-and-up side, SE *is* looking for staff to interface with the Spanish and Italian speaking communities. Both in the translation and the marketing arenas.
