Also, I absolutely don't get what's weird about not having ears on the side of your head when they are already on the top of it. It would be much, much weirder if they had four ears. Animals that have their ears on the top of their heads are normal as well, aren't they? But maybe I'm just already used to anime-like characters with animal features.

I think the weird part would be how the ear canal and everything works on a human head. Granted, I'm no expert in human biology.

Actually it only changes for the veena viera, it doesn't for rava. Which can make the ears look a tad odd if paired with a very dark skin tone.
