My unpopular opinions on modern mmo

You say the MogStation is a cash grab, but not really. Try going to another game like Black Desert and tell us how it compares to the MogStation. That game is more the norm these days too in the MMO community. Even ESO is loaded with micros and loot boxes. FFXIV is really lite in comparison. The majority of MMOs fall into a few categories: P2W garbage, F2P garbage, Korean garbage, or a mix of all three.

Aditional retainers if you are a crafter.

Story skip potions if you wanna make an alter.

Best mounts and glams are there too.

Idk, sounds like FFXIV isnt that innocent soul you are trying to paint here.

Optional yes, but all of it exists to make money knowing full well people are going to pay them regardless of the price. Some of it (like retainers) should be available in game instead of adding to one's subscription fee. Optional retainers are a cash grab.

Optional retainers give you more inventory space, more slots to sell on marketboard, more retainers to do ventures.

This is why I put my list above. Most things that are sold offer you more, so it's to be expected that you pay more. The only things that don't offer you more are fantasia, name change service, and transfer service, as you're paying to lose something for another.

Unless "cash grab" is just a synonym for making a profit (and if it is, then there is nothing wrong with it, so "innocent soul" it is), then those are not what makes FFXIV a "cash grab."

These are: fantasia, name change service, transfer service.

That's all. So depending how often you pay for those, then FFXIV may or may not be a "cash grab" for you.
