Thancred is 32 but apparently there's some lore somewhere about Sharlayans using enchantments to look younger than they really are - I'm not sure about the source of that, but it's consistent with him suddenly looking noticeably older at the point where he loses the ability to use magic. Because he's not in his real body currently on the First, apparently he reverted to his preferred appearance (however exactly that worked).

I thought he lost the ability to wield magics, from when he was caught up in the Flow spell. The lifestream trip affected him. He even commented on this disparity following him to the first because of it


On topic. It is not a case of having these avatars......its a case of what people will do with them unfortunatly, and SE knows this. So its just a situation where the few ruin it for everyone else.

Is there a reason we don't have them as an option to pick?

They wouldn't be child-like then. They would be children.

Lalas are child-like. They appear as young children, but are fully grown adults.

But SE doesn't like the idea of creating playable children and thrusting them into violent situations where several people are actively trying to murderize you. Remember the entire MSQ and think to yourself that you wouldn't be horrified if a child was doing those things. "Hey lets send this kid alone into the bowl of embers to fight a god because he has the echo and we don't."

Sharlayan archons have their age locked at whenever it is they became an archon. It was first mentioned in 1.0 but only rarely comes up now. I remember it being mentioned at the end of Stormblood and a passing mention in the lore book. Must suck for Matoya though, being old forever.

Back on topic, I don’t understand why people want to play a minor or why this topic keeps coming up but it’s kinda creepy. Especially with how many times WoL gets flirted with and everything else that happens.

This is the most sensible reason, but I'd say not because people in the real world would have problems with the violence toward children but that people in the game world would. The MSQ isn't going to happen when the quest NPCs refuse to send a 10-year-old on a dangerous mission.

This reminds me of the time my friend got mad at me and didn't talk to me for a day when I told him I ship Ryne and Thancred together and that they'd make a really cute couple.

I wouldn't mind a late-teen/early-twenties option for some of the races. Like something inbetween Alphi/Alisae and a normal height Elezen, with more youthfull face options. Could work on some races such as Hrothgar, Elezan, Roes, male Au Ra and Viera as they're pretty tall and the new option would be closer to a normal sized Hyur. For the more normal sized races and genders they could get their base options increased so it spanned more age ranges.

A lot of people seem to have a problem with Lalafells for the same reason SE has a problem with playable children, but I don't see it. The vast majority of Lalafells I've seen in game act like mature adults, so I always think of them as midgets rather than children. Playable children, on the other hand, one can understand. SE would obviously have control over how sexualized they are, as SE is the one that programs different poses and outfits into the game, but showing children in pain is a little less in their control. That also brings up the problem of having to create completely new outfits from what is in game (the current outfits, presumably, are just shaped to fit the different body types of the races we have now) to prevent the sexualization of said children, which probably costs a lot of resources considering we're on the third expansion.

Thanks to moral guardians, we hit that point a long time ago. Developers do need to keep it in mind, because otherwise they will get in trouble for it. Often from people who never even play the game, they just saw something and decided to have a fit about it.
