No, not Lalas. I mean younger version of the available races.
Is there a reason we don't have them as an option to pick?

SE doesn't feel it would be ethical. (I'm ok with their decision on that, personally...)
Alisae and Alphinaud are 16-17yrs old. They have also experience, wisdom and skill that rivials most of their adult companions. That alone puts them in a different league then a ordinary child.
Note: Taking advice from a players alt, is like taking advice from a voice in a dark room. Criticism is a two way street remember that!!
I agree. It's not going to happen and it never will. There are parents playing this game and you think we'd like to see kids doing what adults do? Not happening... sorry.

Pokes...♥
The whole Thancred/Minfillia shipping I think has more to do with their interactions in 2.0. He doesnt come across as being all that much older than her by any substantial margin, nor does he look it. For me at least, I got the vibe is was some early - mid 20 something free spirited playboy guy who acted teh clown but came through in a pinch, where Minfillia was more a 19-22 YO serious no nonsense type with a soft side. Thancred never struck me as being a father figure for her, or that Minfillia saw him that way, atleast not in 2.0
Maybe Ive watched to much anime or what not, but that is a anime plot line if there ever was one where those two could become a power couple. I could have easily seen the plot move into that direction if it wasnt for the fact that so many people hated Minfillia as a character. While Im just speculating here, that mightve been the whole long term arc that they wanted but people hated Minfillia and SE wrote her out of the story but still had to deal with the set up with Thancred so they moved into the "I was a guardian/father figure for her" as a way to tie up that plot line. But anyways, thats a whole other topic.
So we should remove all kids from the game? NPC too? So no more alphinaud or Alisae? My issue still stems from the issues that arise when you break down their position. One way or the other is fine, just there should be consistency and clarity in the position they take.I agree. It's not going to happen and it never will. Thancred is actually 32 years old in ARR, and probably still is, due to the whole time bubble thing in lore. The whole Thancred/Minfillia shipping I think has more to do with their interactions in 2.0. I can see why people who started with 2.0 would miss it, but yeah, Thancred was always supposed to be Minfillia's adoptive dad, there was never anything romantic between the two.
The creep factor comes in because Thancred sorta helped raise Minfilia for 15 years after her dad died in the 1.0 Ul’dah intro echo scene. It’s touched on more in 1.0. At the very least he was a big brother figure and has known her since she was 12. In 2.0, Minfilia is 27 and Thancred is 32, but his age is locked in at ~27 since he’s an archon if that means anything. I still wouldn’t ship it. And Ryne is right out.Even wierder then cause their personalities dont line up this way by the way theyre written and presented. If they wanted to do the couple route, 27/32 pairing isnt unusual nor creepy? 4-5 year age gaps between couples that are late 20s or early 30s isnt uncommon. But for the sake of argument, yeah, I could see the older brother angle more readily than father figure. That never worked as a plot point for me simply because the characters didnt really display that attitude from my PoV. Theres a pretty big difference in the older brother being protective of a younger sister and a father figure. This then comes across as either a translation or writing issue. Seems to line up cause when you take into context Ryne, his reservations and disdain towards Ryne becomes unusually weird. From themes alone, Thancred shouldnt feel nearly that much animosity towards Ryne for the reasons he does if the relationship was completely platonic between him and Minfillia. This is the writers failing to write the characters interactions and motivations correctly, translation errors, or that pre-existing lore and etc is making the reasoning difficult to work with.Thancred is actually 32 years old in ARR, and probably still is, due to the whole time bubble thing in lore.I think Minfilia is around 22 years old in ARR, but the Encyclopaedia Eorzea only mentions when she first experiences the Echo (at around 17 years old) so her actual age depends when she formed the Path of the Twelve.(Edit: Completely missed the first sentence that mentions her current age as 27) I'd say that's at least old enough to be sort of an older brother figure, with how much he wanted to protect her.

Like they said, its mostly for ethical reason. Its different with NPCs since they can at least control what happens to them.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...24#post4975024Among some of the feedback we received were requests for playable characters that resembled young boys and girls. Unfortunately, this is one request we cannot consider for ethical reasons.
With every passing year the debate surrounding moral and ethical issues in games grows more intense, and we do not want to present children in battle or in pain—and posing such characters sexually and taking screenshots and so forth would be expressly forbidden.
In any event, regardless of what our players did or did not intend to do, the fact remains that if a review board were to evaluate such content and determine it were unacceptable, we would be forced to suspend FFXIV’s service. We ask that you keep these factors in mind as we strive to abide by the changing standards of the times. "
