yes because new players are our enemies and they should not be helped, the next step is to hack all sites on the internet and remove all info, then everone has to figure out everything by themselves.
Although, you have to keep in mind that pve mentors get the roulette, while trade mentors get...nothing I guess? Apart from novice network access.Look at requirements to pve mentors. You have to do all tank, healer, and dps shadowbringers job quests plus do bunch of dungeon runs and have tons of comms. Mentor is suppose to be hard to become and have lots and lots of experience in that field. Other wise why even give requirements to be one if don't think need a challenge to be one. How it is right now I could create alt and in one to two days it could be a trade mentor that's how easy it is right now.
A crown isn't needed to help new players, you know? But let's be really dramatic, and put words into my mouth instead.
I like having my trade mentor crown on because sometimes new players will see it and ask me to craft gear for them. Obviously I don't need a crown to do this, but it makes it easier for new players to identify that I'm willing to help.
Lol I've never been motivated enough to bother going through the steps for a Trade Mentor crown. I'm happy enough to chatter at newbies in my FC or the odd person on FB, and the folks in my FC know me well enough to know they can come to me with any questions about crafting they might have. I've never seen the point in getting a special little crown to mark I'm a Trade Mentor. I'm honestly surprised anyone does? As OP said, it's not exactly a hard achievement to get and there doesn't seem to be any benefit for it except bragging rights.
Now, if Trade Mentor required one to be an omnicrafter/gatherer with every single one of the various books and at least 90% of the book contents gathered and crafted or something on top of a hefty collectible crafting/gathering requirement. That would be an actual challenge. Particularly if one of the requirements mandated some sort of tangible proof you assist other players as well. Perhaps in the form of a Tradecraft Hall where would be mentors can post information and others can comm them if the information is helpful? If the perk for doing all this was access to special skills or other mentor exclusive benefits (like maybe full gear sets with all 5 materia slots open?)... THEN it would be worth going for.
I do think the requirements are a little on the easy side. Around the same time that people were risking losing access to the Novice Network there were people making it clear that they were pursuing the Trade Mentor route not because they wanted to be a Trade Mentor and help people but because they didn't want to lose access to their friends in the channel.
I technically qualify for crafting mentor but I got no clue how anything works. ‾\_(ツ)_/‾
I keep hearing about this same issue. I don't understand why they don't just make a linkshell or discord for this purpose.I do think the requirements are a little on the easy side. The idea is to make it so that at the very least there is a high chance you've experienced all those things. Having at least 1 80 out of each side with a certain amount of slightly deeper reqs (collectables) means there's a good chance this person has dedicated some time to the jobs. I don't think theres gonna be a lot of people who pay for those qualifications in turn ins or spend the time crafting/gathering 100's of useless collectables JUST for the crown.
the idea behind being a mentor is primarily that you're willing to volunteer time to help and are at least willing to "certify" yourself in that regard.
The reality is that people see the shiny crown and see a reward, not a responsibility.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
