There are a lot of actions executed per minute like 40-80 (comparing to 30-48 in FFXIV) but most of it is made with few skills, where in ffxiv you have a lot better distribution between more numerous skills.

In short, WoW combat is a lot faster but it is also a lot simplier and based on spamming mindlessly few same buttons, where in FFXIV you have a ton more skills and mechanics to execute, making FFXIV combat more diverse in comparison.

FFXIV combat is a lot better, its slower but its busier and more thinking is involved in it than just spamming few skills all the time mindlessly, do not listen to the wow heads who are denying facts, i was sleeping playing that game even with console controller, its boring as hell.
It depends on the class and the spec build you're using.

Classes like Warlock and hunter pick up endgame and the reasoning for the being fewer buttons is so they're situational , so while you have a rotation it can and will change for varying situations. So if its mindless its either early game or not paying attention to anything endgame. The mindless aspect can be and is used by many people who dont put effort into FF as well.

Mechanically speaking WoW offers much in how you play the class, its all down to being willing to optimize said skill set, If we're talking dungeon Mechanics, Mythics difficulty and above is where things get hard in PvE contnet, normal and heroic are for the casuals specifically.

Tho ultimately which is better is extremely subjective both have their pros and cons. From an Ex wow player who switched to FF.

I had just hard checked it, even on high lvl of plays for example tank monk is using same 4 skills over and over, the distribution is really bad and biggest APM source is few skills. Gunbreaker for the fact or DRK both have a lot more skills that are making bigger % in total CPM.

Have you hard checked each class, each possible build within PvE and PvP, how they vary and every Raid and Dungeon situation that will make you use more and or less button based on when they;re needed?

While yes classes like tank monk can be reduced to 4 buttons you have alternatives to not just use only 4 buttons and The tanks I ran with rarely only used 4 buttons. Not saying you have to like WoW, its not my favorite game atm either, but thats just blatant misinformation.

Edit: Also you're not factoring in environmental factors which make every class in WoW have lower CPM, unlike FF you're not always attacking the boss, you're actively interacting with the world around you.
