Bets on how many seals these will cost? Why bother with the time/effort mindlessly grinding ~3000 seals when the same amount of time mindlessly grinding crafts/wolves will give far better results?

I just heard that they're 5000 seals. Enjoy grinding that out for mediocre at best gear guysif they were meldable they might be decent

another solution to this would be to make crafted gear with good stats but requires drops from NMs or from raids or whatever. something that XI did very well. SKy armor required Crafted cursed items, and the NMs dropped items to make it useful. Or Scorpion Harness was one of the best body pieces for evasion tanks for years, but the main ingreidant to make dropped form an NM.
They attempted to do this with dodore doublet Silver tricorne and mosshorn mail but no one uses those anymore
Going to copy my post from another forum; In the context of a discussion showing concerns about rare/ex items becoming more powerful than current crafted gear if allowed one materia slot.
---
This seems so because crafting is even less developed than rare/ex gear at the moment. The shit items we have crafted now SHOULD suck. Every crafted item in the game aside from the dodore doublet is effectively trash (even if you ignore that they are trying to put a colored-tier system in), and rightfully so since they all use much too common materials and shouldn't be used as more than leveling gear and entry-to-endgame, but the materia system makes them much, much better. Yet there are no rare gatherable items, there are no useful rare material drops, there are no siren's hairs, venomous claws, shining cloths, and no abjuration-type system that involves crafting (Haubergeon+Hauberk+additional mats) and NM drops (Sea hog, Nidhogg, and Odin in this case) in the creation of rare/ex items (Such as adaman hauberk.) A lot of the XI systems (Abjurations, crafted pop items, etc) actually make more sense in this game and it's mindblowing how they threw all their learned knowledge from that game away for no reason.Originally Posted by CrstyCptSteveWitherspoon
The problem is if the let rare/ex gear become meldable, even just one slot(no forbidden allowed), I think that rare/ex gear would then vastly be much better than almost all crafted gear except for a *few* double melds and loltriple melds. It would totally kill any reason to craft gear when a rare/ex could just be melded and be much better.
This is all due to there being absolutely no content to the game and it makes the future look bleak as far as items go because of so many fluctuations and outdated events (HNMs useless, DH useless, Ifrit is only good for DMG based DDs), due to huge, sweeping changes to overall systems, with no encouraging evidence at all that they have figured it out or know what they are doing. Rare/ex evasion boots giving 15, GC seals evasion boots giving 18, while any trash crafted boots in the game with melds can give 25 at the very least, and you can forbidden materia it. It's insanely frustrating to think about the future like this.
There are other ways of incorporating crafters, and gatherers into end-game gear than to have their things be the best with no interaction from combat classes, and not only have they not shown positive signs of this way of thinking, they've stated the opposite and said revamped HQs with materia will be the best. Dusk gloves were crafted, and that's great, but combat jobs had to get the hide. You enter sky with a scorpion harness and came out with a shura togi, and both of those items were crafted, and with rare materials to boot. Making every dropped item in the game straight drop rare/ex like the Kirin's Osode and Byakko's Haidate (and current Primal Weapons) is what hurts the crafters and gatherers, good rare/ex items do not have to be doom and gloom for the non-fighters.
But fuck crafters in 14, seriously. I really hope it gets better after things like Behemoth, Lake of Rage, and Crystal Tower are introduced, along with the level cap increase, but I just can't say that I am optimistic.

Hopefully dropping the XI bomb so much in the context of actually improving the game will bring in the idiots who vehemently and blindly hate it, and they will keep the thread bumped so Will doesn't have to; just to hope that a dev stops posting about goobbue names (oh lol) and snowballing to at least acknowledge it. We don't need results immediately just drop by and tell us that you are voicing our concerns to the item and content designers, only idiots will yell at you about that (ban them.)

This is alright for some stuff but really everything just needs to be meldable. Having everything be crafted adds even more random crap to getting good gear on top of forbidden melds (HQing synths, that is). Crafters have more than enough power as it is right now, actual traditional mmorpg content needs to take priority.another solution to this would be to make crafted gear with good stats but requires drops from NMs or from raids or whatever. something that XI did very well. How ridiculous do the stats on a U/U belt have to be to compete with this without using materia?

Set Bonuses. We need them.

Plus it'd be nice if a set bonus was actually able to be used for a cool/unique bonus instead of trying to make up for a massive stat disparity. Also you'd need 2+ drops from bosses just to compete with one common crafted item with a double meld. Also the other slots needed to complete the set bonus are also meldable meaning the set bonus would have to make up for stats lost there as well.
