Quality over quantity. This game's story is solid, Warcraft's story has always been passable at best. It peaked in Warcraft III where it was just good and went hard downhill from there.

Whatever your opinion of FFXIV's story, it's almost objective that it's better told and better quality than what WoW has been doing lately.

Lately? Yes. But as you have pointed out already that wasn't always the case. It stayed pretty solid for awhile in WoW long after WC 3. Up until Shadowbringers, I didn't really like the story much in FF XIV. But I also didn't like being lost so I kept up on it. ARR was honestly kinda bad after the initial launch story wise. HW's story was pretty decent but sorta just...died after completing the launch stuff. Stormblood? "lol" is all I can really say. The best part of Stormblood was toward the end when they started the build up for Shadowbringers. Then Shadowbringers was actually really solid from start to finish. I just hope the game's story continues to be at least half as good through the rest of this expansion. Obviously all of this is just my opinion though.

Or the fact that FF is creating lore as the game goes, vs WoW which had at least 5 years worth of pre-existing lore to build off of. Kinda can't compare.
