I think there's something you're not realizing and it's kinda simple. No matter how hard you wish and how hard you hope... you'll never love a game the same way you loved FFXI. Even if it is FFXI remade with better graphics.

The experiences you had, cannot be recreated no matter how hard you want it to be. That first time when you where lv10 and exploring a lv40 area that magic won't happen again. It's sad but it's true. The best you can do now is just keep it fond in your memory because a remake will never be able to recreate the moments that made you love the original FFXI.

    Edit:
Just to expand upon this, you didn't love FFXI for the job skills and the way partying was (because it was slow and a time-sink in and of itself). You loved it because of the experiences you had in it with friends, and the events you did for the first time. And, unforunately... those things just cannot be remade.

I'm sure thats true for a lot of people, but definitely not me. I loved the leveling mechanics. I saw past the fact that it took forever, and realized what taking forever to level actually did for the game... It kept all ranges of content alive. It made players want to invest in gear for those levels to help them and, therefore, put a demand on that gear. I don't see vertical progression style gaming really giving use a place to call home for years... When things got boring for me in FFXI, I started up a new job, and opened myself up to new BCNM options, new capped mission options, and a new job to get good at.

Blah. I don't want FFXIV to be FFXI-2. Just want to be clear. I just want all those things that sometimes annoyingly, but 100% effectively, kept me immersed for 7 or 8 years.

    Hey Dayo,

This isn't true for everyone. What of the people who miss the XI experience that also played EverQuest for a number of years? Are they also "wearing rose-colored glasses?" No, I don't think so. Some people just enjoy certain gameplay elements, and some still purchased this game with the hopes that SE would stay true to their roots and not sell out and pull WoW elements for subs. However unreasonable this may sound, it's true.

Just checkin' your mind to make sure it's staying open, Risx. Stay frosty.
