It's funny to hear so many people asking for this game to become niche like FFXI.
Hmmm let's see here
If i'm a business CEO and I have the choice of appealing to 10 million potential customers like WoW did, or the hard to please 500k niche audience, which one am I going to choose?
Clearly the 500k "old-fart" minded people can GTFO while I build an entirely new fanbase and much larger following for my MMO title.
After all, this is a business, not an ethics haven for people who want a game that stands still in time just the way they like.
What's more amusing is that i'm absolutely positive the 500k of you that enjoy FFXI's old school style are the same people that have bashed the crud out of every new FF title square has released that tried to be innovative and evolutionary.
I wont name titles b/c we all know what they are.
Square IS NOT going to cater to the 500k of you selfish niche old school fans.
FFXIV is Squares attempt at making an approachable mainstream MMO title that still embodies the theme of the FF series we all know and love.
The days of slow grind content are long gone. Asking for that to come back is futile.
The current MMO trend is "flash in the pan" style end game content with enough side activities to tide players over in between major patches and expansions.
Either get used to this trend, wait years for a new trend to emerge, or go play an older grind oriented MMO that's still live. God knows there's enough of them...
Whatever do you though, Don't bring your self-centered FFXI /crybaby story over here asking for Square to cater to your needs.
Most of you old school lovers think that you make up a majority of the FF series fan base, and you might just be right, but from a business stand point, Square is better off without you for FFXIV.
The sooner we get more open-minded, innovative, forward thinking players to invest in this game, the higher the chances will be that it becomes successful.
